The actual download link is found below :
    http://www.segaarcade.com/news/free-software-upgrade-for-daytona-championship-usa.html

It's supposed to be just an update for the arcade operators, perhaps for overwriting the existing files on the arcade version (Which I think is PC based) But it's basically the whole game and works in an ordinary PC. Except the controls don't work.

Isn't this a huge screwup by Sega? Or they just didn't care?

How did you get past "Network discovery Please wait.."?

It might be just an oversight. It is strange how they have a handy .exe to install just readily available for anyone to get.

Maybe this is someone's clever way of getting around present Daytona-related licensing issues on consoles? (If only there were similar recent arcade sequels to Sega Rally, Out Run, SCUD Race, Manx TT or Sega Touring Car based on PC hardware!) After the Sonic community was officially embraced for the Mania project to do what Sonic Team itself seems incapable of, it wouldn't surprise me if Sega again tried reaching out to the talents it knows are online in certain fan circles with the hopes they'll not only get the newest Daytona USA running on domestic systems, but perhaps even convert this to other platforms because they can't for some reason...

Yeah, and what's kind of amazing is that apparently they haven't realized their mistake yet, since the file is still available on the official Sega website.

I might need that haha. I won't be able to DL until tomorrow. Hopefully the DL is still live then.

Oh wow. It works like a charm on my PC. No controls like everyone else of course, but it runs butter smooth - only around 1 gig of RAM use. I'll have to dig up a webcam somewhere. My system isn't even really that powerful.

This is modern piracy (which is not condoned on this forum). I think a moderator should take down the thread.

I don't think it is, Sega released it on a public dropbox account right on their arcade website and made a official statement with the link + DK2 Driver is free to download too from DESkey manufacturer website .

Yeah, it’s not piracy. Sega publicly released it themselves. It’s available for anyone to download on their official website with no limitations. They haven’t even taken it down yet! No part of that is piracy. What you do with it once you’ve downloaded it is another matter, and still not piracy.

wow this is incredible, i do wonder what is holding up communication to the steering and input controls, perhaps a custom controller that relays signals that isn't standard i/o, or a driver set that enumerates individual commands via input from devices; good find

It probably expects a steering wheel, which might be custom like you said, or maybe not. Using a 360 controller does have some functionality - you can navigate some parts of the menus, and in-game you can change the view and see the side info panel thing. Some parts of the menus can also be controlled with the keyboard. It's still not playable, though. The fact that it already has some support for the 360 controller means it should be possible to get the controls working.

A couple things I've noticed that I haven't heard mentioned anywhere: you can press Alt+Enter to change between fullscreen and windowed mode. If you're in windowed mode, pressing Alt pauses the game - this even works in the demo sequence. It doesn't pause the music, and it only works in windowed mode for some reason.

Does anyone know what hardware the arcade version of this uses? I haven't been able to find this information anywhere. PC-based obviously, but I'm curious about the system's specs and its name.

Sega have not released this so you can play it on your PC. It is that simple. They released it as an upgrade to a paid for arcade game. Hacking the game so it will run on non-Sega hardware without owning the original game is against their T&C and effectively piracy.

All the people lamenting the slow death of Sega but that take advantage of things like this need a reality check.
