Daytona Championship Software Upgrade is the full game and works on an ordinary PC.

Yeah. I was going to buy a cabinet just to play Daytona 3, but now I'll just rig up something. They totally lost my purchase.

Sega killed themselves long ago. Accidentally releasing a full game, in a series not many "gamers" care about, for an arcade cabinet very few people are fortunate to run isn't going to be their death knell.

And the controls don't work (even auto-drive slams into the wall... there's a Nascar joke there...) so you can't play it even if you built yourself a full cabinet. I think the interesting part is how they're using a Raspberry Pi in conjunction with the main system to show a billboard display. I'd like to know why they didn't just do some sort of dual-video output?

 

I don't think anyone is taking advantage of Sega here, if you want the proper experience you still have to play the arcade. Not many people have racing cockpits at home like they have setup at the arcade, nor do they have a bunch of them networked together for up to 8 players. This is more a curiosity then anything else(at least for me). Besides, where I live there is zero chance I'll ever get to play this game in the arcade, since they killed them off around here years ago.

It's as though Sega accidentally pirated their own game.

 

What installing the dk2 driver? That's pretty much that's all to be required.

 

something obviously is not being authorized or detected, i figure the lack of a custom i/o board to handle the controller/wheel/pedals/etc is playing a part in this, could it be the software is restricting functionality because its looking for a security dongle that relays a auth. key?

very much like windows when it's activation state is changed or corrupted; it restricts and cripples the software...

 

Weirdly using the arrow keys, navigated the menu and xinput right trigger confirms.
Xinput dpad changes views.
Other keys like 3,4,6,7 change gears. Really the only thing that's stopping you from playing the game is steering.

What really confuses me is that Rtrigger is the accelerator for the menus upto the track select.

 

How does this damage Sega?

"Oh no, some people on a forum somewhere who could never afford a Daytona 3 cabinet in the first place just got access to the game on normal PC's! We're RUINED!".

There's a patch a few pages into the thread posted on page one. It "works" but the controls are VERY twitchy. It's neat, but not really any more interesting than any other PC racing game.

You'll still need to use the keyboard to navigate track select. Also manual controls are not sorted out yet.

Install Notes:
Place exe in the same folder as the Daytona.exe and it will auto-patch Daytona.exe.

 

Someone on that thread said "Arcade PC has a 4k hack". What is Arcade PC? A forum or website? I can't find anything like that. Does anyone know?

 

That would be the "ArcadePC Loader" frontend, I think.
