    Hi all,

    I'm wanting to mod my Dreamcast and a few ps1's.

    First up is the dreamcast:

    1: Is this the correct chip for a V0 board -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/280774677182?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

    2: To program the IC will these work to do the job? -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/1x-New-PSOP44-PSOP-SOP44-to-DIP44-Universal-Adapter-Converter-for-Programmer-/350850545046?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item51b0527596&_uhb=1

    And -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/PIC-USB-Automatic-Programming-Develop-Microcontroller-Programmer-K150-ICSP-Cable-/360693680577?pt=AU_B_I_Electrical_Test_Equipment&hash=item53fb04c9c1&_uhb=1

    Second:

    1: What Ic's do I need for PS1 mod chips?
    2: Will the ps1 chips work with this programmer ^?
    3: Where can I get the HEX files to burn onto the ic's?

    Thanks:livid:

    1: Yes, but you need to be careful - the original ROM in the VA0 dreamcast run off 5V, and that's a 3.3V part. so you have to get a 3.3V supply from somewhere else on the board and run the chip off that (basically, don't solder down pin 23 and connect it to 3.3V)
    2: That's the right adaptor - but it needs to go into a programmer that will support flash memory
    3: That's a PIC programmer - you can use it to program PS1 modchips, but it won't support that flash.

    1: The "classic" 8 pin mod was a 12C508 or 12C509. The code has also been ported to the newer and cheaper 12F629
    2: Almost certainly yes - although you need to look at the device support to be 100% sure
    3: They are all over the net - a good place to start is the downloads section at eurasia.nu

    Hard to say - I'm using a Xeltek 500p, and would strongly recommend it - but it's a $700 programmer, and probably not justifiable unless you are spending a lot of time dealing with programmable devices.

    The Willem type programmers seem popular and are a lot cheaper - although they are more of a hassle to use and require care in the selection of programming adaptors.
