    Hello everyone,

I've been lurking this forum for a bit, and it contain so much useful data I wonder why nothing has ever been gathered in a wiki where you could find everything in a more simpler manner.
I'm no DEV, so I can't really help this community by coding or ripping game but I'd be willing to document the work of people on how to set up Katana, mod console, even had DEV docs.

I can put up the pages, but I guess I'd need double-confirmation that everything is still correct.

I'm wondering if you guys would be interested in that, and if anyone would be interested to help as well.

    Help would be for:

Linking the useful/hidden topics that are worthy of keeping in wiki format
    Adding content
Double-checking that no info is lost or poorly transfered from a source to the wiki.

    Thanks everyone.

That is indeed a very nice idea, its pretty hard to find some info in so many topics...

You have a lot of work to do though and i believe when you have the main construction
of the wiki people will help.

    Good luck mate...

I started an assemblegames one and set it up and precisely 0 people contributed. So just set your expectations accordingly.

If you want I can give you a subdomain and free hosting for the wiki if you like.

It was hardly negative, I want people to contribute and catalog the information here. But facts are, no one bothered - including you as I said I would clear up the old database for you, but no response either.

Like how you are offering a sub domain and such to a new member, yet someone who's been posting here years who offered to clean up the existing database - nothing.

actually hes spot on (as his try at a wiki shows) so he is just letting the OP know before he puts in a load of work that goes nowhere, would be a shame to waste all the effort as bad_ad did, just a friendly bit of advice so not sure why you are jumping all over it (also does your complaint apply to your own comment as it was in no was constructive to the topic?)

i think the idea of a wiki is a great idea but sadly it takes a lot of time to build it up and even the enthusiastic people lose interest quickly due to real life or other factors, Wiki's need alot of time and effort to ensure the information is accurate, not a pleasant task

I think we should have a wiki that helps devs on all systems. There is so much knowledge in these forums. Currently I'm working on a homebrew Net Yaroze setup. I also have a ps1 2000 card set in the same pc. I could try to help as well. Being currently disabled I have alot of time on my hands. But as I'm new to development I don't know a ton.

I'll see if we can drum up support again.

Last time someone was careless with the passwords and we got spammed to death.

No use making another one is one is already there I just couldn't find it!
Send me a link of your wiki and I will try to add info on spare time on that wiki. Can I just create an account and start adding stuff? I'll also update my first topic with that wiki link and what would be needed as help!

I've made wiki editing before and I think I'd be able to help a bit.
    Thanks for your support!

(also english isn't my first language so feel free to spellcheck me on the wiki ;) )

I deleted the wiki, as no one contributed in like a year.

If you want to try again, it will need doing from scratch

Then I'll take your offer ASSEMbler!

Feel free to PM me if you need me to gimme any info. I'm checking the forum pretty often.
I'll mainly be focussing on the DC stuff but the idea of having the wiki open for other console is also fine!

If the main focus is for the Dreamcast, it might be an idea to simply work with an already established wiki. I'd personally suggest building up the content that's already present on segaretro:
    http://segaretro.org/Sega_Dreamcast
There's absolutely no reason that wiki couldn't host the kind of development content you're talking about, and it's already got an established (and contributing) community supporting it, with active maintainers.

    Currently checking out that wiki.

Although it's definitely sega oriented I feel like a "dev" wiki wound at least need it's own "portal" or own structure.
I'll start there tho and if anything I'll export the page and publish somewhere else. I also don't know if it's in this blog mission to support dreamcast dev, or just document all the sega console.

I'll e-mail the guy that owns this blog.

The sega-retro wiki is great, but it's a historical one. If there was to be a AG wiki, it should be for the obscure stuff, dev hardware/hacking/mods/exploits etc. Not the release-titles and stuff.

@Kevin, it'd be great to have a wiki hosted on here using the same acounts than the forums for loggin/editing and a minimal amount of posts to edit.

Given the current terrible state of Vbulletin software, we might not be with them much longer. I will see about duplicating the logins.

We should pick an easy wiki to use. Suggestions?

Yea, mediawiki is pretty much the standard despite being built on PHP.
