Hey ASSEMbler, are we doing the wiki on this website or should I setup a independent one?

    Thanks!

I was also thinking about setting up a wiki, as I have learned a lot when I found TJ&EIII. There was little information how GD-Workshop works for example.
Almost all links on the web are leading to Segakatana where most of the information was gathered, needless to say that the site is dead for a long time and nowehere to be found in any archives.

If someone is going to setup a Wiki, it maybe a good suggestion to give others the ability to sort of export the database so the information is not gone again when someone leaves the community. Maybe a export script that removes email adresses, password hashes and other sensitive stuff would do the job.

I guess that's why we should have it hosted here on ASSEMBler games!

Anyone who is interested in contributing any Dreamcast-related content to our wiki at DCEmu would be more than welcome. Our software is set up to be a closed wiki but I will make accounts for anyone who wishes to edit. We are currently in the stages of rebooting the site (new name hasn't been decided on, new design coming, new focus on all things dreamcast instead of just the old emu scene, etc.), as the main page hasn't been actively maintained in years, but our forums are a treasure trove of DC history. We are the oldest active Dreamcast community at this point, I believe, and BlueCrab, the current maintainer of KallistiOS, is also part of my admin staff, and we host the official forums for the Sylverant PSO homebrew server. My goal with this coming reboot is to host a knowledge base of all things Dreamcast, and preserve the Dreamcast-related utilities, homebrew software, knowledge, etc. on the internet before it all goes away. But we don't have a lot of content, we are just getting started, and we don't have a lot of guys with time. But the site has been a part of my life for over 13 years now and I will pay to keep it hosted and going for the rest of my life, so no worries there :) If you guys are interested in that, just let me know!

I just got into looking again at your site. I remember browsing it a while ago and a bunch of link were dead IIRC but It could be some other old dreamcast website...

What's everyone else input on using DCEMU?

Anyway I'd be interested, hook me up with an account with this username and I'll try to keep some page updated!

I like dcemu a lot, and I go lurk the forums quite regularly,
but for me there is a clear distinction between what is on assemblergames & what is on dcemu:

    (correct me if I'm wrong)

Dcemu -> focus on open source programming based on Kalistios & co, ie, not really on Katana/WINCE stuff
Assemblergames -> focus on official hardware & tools, not really on Kalistios & co...

I have mixed feelings about regrouping these two worlds (legal vs illegal) that are better kept separated I think...
In fact, I'm not sure if Bluecrab & co would like to see these things regrouped...

Agree with T_chan here. I see dcemu as the white-hat people. Here it's more grey-hat.

Ofc the dcemu wiki could have pages about dev tools and bootstraps and stuff, but I don't think it'd be well seen to put hacking details and devkit/sdk tutorials and techniques to dump gd-r there...

@ASSEMbler, do you plan on putting on a wiki?

legal or not legal, that is the question ;)
I'm pretty sure - most complete, detailed and usefull DC hardware documentation is leaked official sega docs (DCDBSysArc990907E, cdif131e, MAPLE82E, etc), but publish it of course illegal.

... and for the people who will be copy-pasting info from the forums:
It would be nice to refer to the people who made the tutorials in the forums in some aknowledgements or so...
just to respect the work that has already been done...

I think everybody agrees on that. Have you seen anything you don't like T_chan?

BTW you'd be a good contributor for the Katana sub-wiki

I don't think there is anything to be seen yet :)

    One day maybe, who knows...
For the moment I already have difficulties finding the time / the will to work on MekugiAspi / the Dreamcast,
and personally I don't have the need for the Wiki, so I'll let others work on it :)

Then I'll make sure you're credited where credit is due. Anyway I don't think people here would not cite willingly, only by error or because they remember a fact but not its source years ago; in which case it should be noted.

    Cheers!
