That Shenmue video was painful to see... Anyway, I doubt we will ever see DC games running on full speed on the PSP, the thing is not powerful enough IMO. Now the iPhone, its tricky because theres no official hardware specs. Some dissection of the hardware says it uses a tri-core ARM9 (or superior) so it has some serious CPU power. But experts believe that for it to have the same gaming power of the DC lots of coding and custom SDK (for games) would be needed. Then theres the controller: unless you're playing a PsyPhi port multitouch sucks balls. Theres some 3rd parties making snap-on controllers, but for what I could see those idiots dont know shit about what gamers want, and are going the generic way on design (dpad and 4 buttons, great...)
Somehow snap on controller with Dpad, Dual Analogue Sticks, 6 buttons and Analogue Trigger buttons ain't going to happen for the Ifail.
impressive. Currious to see where he gets when he really start putting alot of work into a recompiler
for those who say it's slow it's like putting windows 98 on an xbox, vista on a ps3, linux on a gameboy, etc etc. it's a technical challenge and it has a certain "wow" factor. i spent hours putting linux on my xbox. i then turned it on- said ooohhh and never really used it again.
Fuck, if they could get this to semi-playable levels (say 20FPS at least) then I'll use it, I'll maybe use it more than regular PSP games! I'll rather see SEGA making more DC conversions though.
Why not ? it should be possible. Heck the programmars and hackers are around to make it happen. And also the technology is probably there in some micro small CPU. But I am not surprised when it comes to a 128 bit system/console is being emulated (extremely fuckedup slow) on another 128 bit system, or is the PSP a 256 bits system ?
o......kay now i don't know what to say. the next step would be porting linux to something that actually hasn't got a processor :110:
From what i understand the original distro of linux ran on caveman walls, using a chisel as an HID
This is just the beginnings of getting the emulator to work. With time and effort, as well as turning off framerate sound etc, a DC on psp could conceivably run. The PSP is essentially a Psx 1.5 and some games come close to matching PS 2 quality, so its no surprise we're seeing a DC emulator. And the psp screen is gorgeous, who wouldn't want to play DC games on it?
The PSP is more than a PSX 1.5, is very close to the PS2 (some say it even surpasses it) and the screen is subVGA so it wont be able to display DC games properly.
In that case, considering the ergonomics of the PSP and the impossibility, in this case, to use said console in a portable way, I would politely tell you to use a friggin DC instead
I agree with you, but it's still a cool project. Although personally I can't think of many DreamCast games I would dig it out the console to play. Soul Calibur but that's about all. Well there's Ikaruga too.
720x480x4x2 = 2,764,800 > 2,097,152 (PSP's vram size) So no double buffering (could only fit 1 buffer in memory).
