    http://xbox360.qj.net/Dead-Rising-Trailer-Pulled-from-Japanese-marketplace/pg/49/aid/10040

"Capcom have removed the Dead Rising trailer from Japanese marketplace and the official website. Capcom are claiming that they have removed the trailer as the Japanese version will not feature the same content as the US or EU version. But according to the website Gamefront the true reason is because the Japanese version of Dead Rising will probably be censored by the Japanese version of the ESRB committee."

I mean, I would almost not be shocked to have this happen in the US, but Japan?
The country of Hentai and Yaoi and tentacle rape? Has there been political pressure in this area in Japan lately? Just seemed very odd to me! [IMG]

I recall hearing that parts of Resident Evil 4 were censored as well in the Japanese release as well. I don't know specifics or if it even turned out to just be a rumor, but if it is true then that would set a precedent.

Did the guys in the firepit at the beginning village end up in the Japanese version?

This is the country that still has a law banning pubes and genitals being shown, as well as barely anything in the way of anti racial laws.

    True on the racial bit

    /me remembers 'Tokyo Breakfast'

But still, just seemed odd to me that Capcom would have to censor thier own game in their home country.

Doesn't Japan have an equvilent of the ESRB 'M' rating? Still confused.... :/

The excessive realistic violence. Probably 1/2 the blood spray, and certainly the decapitation with the pruning hook.

Biohazard four is censored, it doesnt have Leon's head being decapitated while Resident Evil 4 does. There are some other small things but thats the major one.

Mmm Ninja Gaiden didn't have decaptations in the European version.

  13. OT: Tokyo Breakfast was actually created in the US for the Ohio Film Festival in 2001 by a couple of American dudes.

This issue in the censoring of Japanese games for explicit gore certainly puzzles me, as it seems to be the other way around with movies: The House Of Blue Leaves scene in Kill Bill was left in color for the Japanese release of the film, while in the US the segment was in black-and-white due to the excessive gore. The Boondock Saints is also a helluva lot more bloody in the Japanese release.

The gore censoring is a recent thing. Seems Japanese parents are finally getting concerned. Gotta remember, this is a country where just about anyone can buy anything...regardless of age. Nobody asks for ID to buy alcohol unless their like 14.

IIRC It was GTA3 (released recently in Japan?) that started all this. I beleive Capcom was the publisher for it, which is why their games in particular are getting censored now.
