There seems to be four different types of debug/development Xbox systems recognized by the XDK: DVT4, DVT6, QT and XBLADE. Does anyone know what those are? DVT4 seems to be by far the most common. All the Development Kits and Debug Kits I've ever personally seen have been DVT4s. They correspond to what the hacking scene called v1.0: Conexant video encoders, fan on the GPU, 1 MB TSOPs and a daughterboard for the USB controller ports. They also all had shitty Thomson DVD-ROM drives, as far as I have seen. Hardware-wise, DVT4s seem identical to v1.0 retail machines, with the extra RAM, 3 chips replaced and the LPC header filled in. The replaced chips are actually listed on a label on the board. But what are the others, DVT6, QT and XBLADE? QT seems like it might be obsolete, or old hardware that was pre-DVT4, because ROMs for it don't exist in the final XDK. XBLADE might be the Xcalibur hardware, since it seems to have a smaller flash ROM (512 KB) and only supports debug kernel 5455. I'm thinking that maybe the DVT6 corresponds to the v1.1 retail systems, which is when the fan on the GPU was removed and the USB daughterboard's logic was merged onto the motherboard. It's also when they updated the MCPX ROM to try to stop hacking, but failed due to various screwups. The different MCPX ROM doesn't affect debug kits, though, because they don't have an MCPX ROM.
DVT-3s stopped having any sort of inclusion past August 2001, and they had their separate disk. I think Myria is referring to the files that are included on the XDK. To be honest, I haven't gotten my hands on the "DVT-6" labelled kits, some of them being black, but the DVT terminology was a bit of a mess towards the end anyway. Ive always assumed that it referred to a specific revision testing, but havent confirmed any of it.
I would love to get my hands on a DVT-4! But a DVT-6 sounds sick! I wish they just did not include those stupid thompson drives!
