just bought a 20+ year old handheld game system CIB. Still has 4 golden AA batteries shrink-wrapped, snug in their little styrofoam cavity. my question is...... What should I do with them? They're factory issued, but obviously I don't want them damaging anything, when I put my collection in storage. Any opinions???
Hmm, have you considered wrapping them in something, what are some acid resistant wraps? Or, shit this is a tough one....
If they are 20 years old, odds are they are inert. You can always encase them in clear resin if you are a perfectionist.
Or that could work. ASSEMbler seems to know everything, but in the videos he makes he sounds like he's in his 20's.
If they haven't leaked in 20 years consider yourself lucky. I've had an original GameBoy get ripped a new one back in 94 or so when the batteries leaked.
I gizmo just arrived. I've 2 pairs of AA Hitachi batteries c. 1984 ! Each pair is in a plastic wrapper. One pair shows no outward sign of decay, while the other is almost entirely corroded, but the plastic seal of the wrapper was not breached. Strong stuff.
Each battery is made differently so some might leak due to the seals not being 100% tight and some will last a long time. How the battery is stored, how it's been discharged and what type of battery can effect if it leaks or not. I have a few zinc carbon batteries from the 60s that look mint.
The heck?! Repo batteries? Seriously, they make them? Do they work, or are they just dummies for presentation?
