Is there a decent filesharing program that doesn't carry any adware/spyware crap? I just want it for the occasional single song (yes, I actually purchase CDs :)).

I had a hacked version of Kazaa Lite (supposedly didn't have the spyware), but it rarely works right. When it does manage to download a song, it's usually fucked up (the "halfway through the song and static kills your eardrums" sort of thing).

hmmm well use bittorent then or something secure since you are going to be busted if it is not illegal in your state of america to share your files. so i don´t know what you shall do anyway but maybe listen to some others since i am in the same position, it is illegal to share files in DK too. So ask some of the others.

as said fuck the antipirate groups since i am tired of all that nonsense about forbidden or not forbidden.

WinMX is all you need. Spyware free but it does eat upa lot of memory. What ever you do though don't type AV in the video search :p Those dirty Japanese buggers.

I just reinstalled Kazaa Lite. I'm not too worried about getting caught. Should I be? All I download are songs (not movies or porn).

that's because the RIAA flooded that network with fakes. That's the only way they can kill it, but people get pissed off and go elsewhere, like edonkey or Ares. Bittorent is big now too. I used all the ones i listed until my university shut every goddamn port except the bare minimum.

I know they're fakes, luckily I listen to some rather obscure bands so 80% of the time the song is untouched.

i used kazaa a lot but got tired of the non-working music files spread by the RIAA so i switched.

i'm using limewire pro now. haven't looked back since. great program, lots of good search results and spyware free.

I'm just saying kazaa blows ass, which you probably already knew. Ares is like it, but is also different than edonkey. Finding a good p2p depends on what you want. You wouldn't use bittorent or edonkey to download obscure 80's singles.

Soulseek for individual tracks/ultra obscure albums
    Torrents (Azureus client) for albums

WinMX for porn :p Serously though, I use WinMX for all my 80's, 90's and even modern stuff plus J-pop. Never had a dud yet and best of all the bit rates on offer through WinMX are always quite high 192kbps and up. I remember Kazza was always or mostly standard 128kbps for MP3. It maybe different now though.

Yeah, I've been using WinMX for many a year too, but mostly for Japanese stuff. And with rarer stuff you'll be waiting **A WHILE**.

People still actually use Kazaa? I always found it to be full of dodgy crap and viruses, and that was 3 years ago! I've found eMule isn't too great for music (well the stuff I listen to anyway). I've found BearShare Lite (the non-spyware version, not like it's easy to delte the spyware anyway) to be pretty good for a classic-style P2P dealy. But a lot of the MP3s tend to be 128k, and I often get really crappy encodes with more popular songs (you know, that crap MP3 encoding that sounds like it's half underwater?).

But for big files and entire albums and stuff, nothing beats BitTorrent, IMO. Except when there's no seeds, and you're stuck on 99.6% for MONTHS...

I still use Kazaa Lite Resurrection for the occasional song, never had any trouble. But then, I never considered p2p a feasible alternative to actually buying the music. Can't beat some decent vinyl :D

eMule, best for finding any file or doc for me. Just takes a while.

Is it me or does bittorrent really suck badly? My Gf pc was working just fine before we touched it but now it's completly screwed up (screen updates are laggy on anything and I get random shutdowns now on both copys of windows installed, both happen on normal pc usage and not while bt is open). :(
