The other day, my JTAG broke, sadly. While my JTAG was working, however, I ripped a bunch of games from their respective discs onto my HDD, so they would load faster and are easier to mod.

Since my JTAG is now broken, I decided to try to play these retail games on my Dev Kit. When I run the game's default.xex from XexMenu, it says "This game is unable to start." I looked up why this would be happening, and apparently Devs will not run retail Xexs. So I obtained a fresh retail copy of the Xex I wanted to run (Halo 3's default.xex), and patched it with XexTool.

    cmd:
    XexTool -md default.xex
    XexTool -rm default.xex

That should patch the Xex to be able to be run on a Dev Kit, but it doesn't work.. The only thing that changes is instead of it saying: "This game could not start." it says: "Disc unreadable."

Some misc. facts about the console:
It is able to boot other homebrew xexs.
    It's a Prototype Beta 2.

So, if anyone has any advice they could give on why this is happening and how to fix it, it would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Decryptic

The .Dll are also xexs, so you have to patch them as well.

This is just a GUI of XexTools, but thank you it's very handy.

I patched the 4 DLLs that I found, and it still says the disc is unreadable. But thanks for this, I think it's a step in the right direction.

X360 gamehack should automatically patch all the necessary files. Just navigate to the base directory for the base directory path and hit fix. It might freeze up for a minute though. IMO it's much easier than dealing with the command line. That's what I did when I had my dev kit.

Also make sure you're up to date with your recovery.

Another odd error: any time I insert a store-bought Xbox 360 game, it assumes it's a DVD Multimedia disc.

Oh, yes I will certainly try this as soon as I can convince FSD that my Xbox game is not a DVD :p

Does making sure you're up to date with your recovery involve going online?

XDKs won't read retail discs, so that's not an actual problem - it's normal. Unless you've got a xam patched to read retail xex's and discs, it's never going to happen.

No, you'll just need to find the recoveries online (people here won't help, google is your friend). I ran into the "this game has failed to start" error on newer games before I updated to 21076. Once you have the recovery (its a remote recovery that runs on your PC), connect your devkit to your router and run it. You might need xbox neighborhood (part of the SDK, which, again, you can google)

The fact that it is a beta 2 kit probably isn't helping much.

Yeah I completely neglected the fact that it was a Beta 2, must have read over that.

There's some hacked recoveries floating around for Beta kits that'll get you up to snuff. I know there's a 9328 commonly passed around for them, but there's also some 13xxx and 14xxx ones I've seen.

I'd worry about getting it on at least 9328.0 before trying to get games working.

The Flash and the XDK are 10552.0. This is a really bizzare console..
It's accelerometer is kind of weird -- it thinks it's laying down when it's standing up. Probably less than 5% of the times that I boot it, it boots into 3RROD with error code 0020 or just 00, then it just goes away, it's ROL is inverted, and I bought it on ebay.

If anyone wants to PM me to help me get it up to speed, I'd really appreciate it :D

Isn't the accelerometer in with the ROL? I bet if you orient the ROL properly the accelerometer will behave as expected.

I think the accelerometer is up by the eject button, but then again I could be wrong. The RF panel is special, too; it has debug cables that go out the top of the console, I don't know if that would have anything to do with its problems.

I think this is what I need to do, but this console says it's on 10552.0. Would you be willing to help me out with this? It'd be very much appreciated.

Yes I am. (The NXE dash is also obscure, it's red coloured not green.)

    The poor Kit :/

Not because of you, but because of the guy who updated a nice Beta Kit, and then even a white one with those neat Argon readout cables (2 red plugs, 3 wires, each?)
And no, these wires don't cause problems, they just indicate what kind of Kit you have there. These are not too common nowadays.

By the way, many Beta Kits behave weird, if it's just the accelerometer, I wouldn't worry about that though.

Would be quite interested to see that Dash though, just to see what the modder did to it :)

it will be similar to this, I know of 3 kinds of Kits like these, 1st: as pictured, 2nd plain white without logos, 3rd same as second, but with a faceplate as seen on the 2nd pic.

(I guess these pics show enough detail for the public?)

And just for the sake of it, some maybe remember this very picture and the story :D :

I don't think that was the first leaked picture of the console, but I remember it did prove the rumor of backwards compatibility.
