I love it when people think they can get $500 on something that is little more than a collector's brick.
Newest dash still supports HDDVD, and I have the Emulator still working... damm why do I believed HDdvd woud win? anyway, they look awesome.
Yeah nowt wrong with HDDVD, easy to build a large, cheap HD movie collection, though Bluray prices here in the UK are nearly the same as DVD now!
Do HD-DVD drives for PC exist? I figure if the price was right it could be good to have for cheap HD films.
Not quite: 5.25" floppy drive - preservation of oodles of software from many platforms Laserdisc - digital copies of non SE Star Wars amongst others Cray - do I really need to state why? I know of no HDDVD exclusives and it is only special because it is dev related but not $500 special. Maybe $50-100. Collecting is cool but $500?
People also pay good money for M2s that are little more than bricks and games to keep sealed in plastic. I don't think this "collector" thing can be rationalized.
Yeah, new dash still supports it. I would love to have the emulator too. But it's impossible to download it today.
Tell me about it, maybe it will turn up someday for use on Devkits / homebrew enabled consoles, it was released for free after all. Someone must have a copy.
Except M2s are of a special area of "unreleased console only used in kiosks and arcade machines". As a result they have a mystique that a HD-DVD drive that did see a commercial release does not. A small modifier makes this one unique compared to the rest but it might as well be signed by Bill Gates.
This might be sacrilegious, but I don't understand half the purchases here for dev objects, betas, and what not. (^_^); Personally, I couldn't justify shelling out 3 to 4 figures on incomplete betas, dev hardware (Mostly paperweights?) and such. It takes waaay to much money away from other gaming goodness, which you can actually enjoy in full - right now. But that's my humble opinion.
With the emulator, it's possible to run hd-dvd files via usb drive (pendrive, hdd, etc) and I think it's even possible to run via network. It was made to debug the disks before burning them.
