    Hey all,

Ive recently obtained a Dev kit and had a couple of easy questions for the gurus.

Not sure but i think its a dvt4 as the xdk is 3937 and read somewhere on here that dvt3 higest version is 3823.

And Do dev kits read cd-r's any better than retails of that era.. are the drives thompsons?

As a fun side effect it came with a beta of dark summit on it :D kinda cool game.. Anyone seen this floating about in beta form? Just curious if its from the dev or something someone stuck on it

Well for a dvt3 it has different xbox jewel on the top of the case and in the back the usb port is exposed. As for drives all of the ones I had did have thompson drives but you could very easily switch them if you crack open the case.

Nice! Well I'd say there's no difference in how they read games, only difference is the extra ram and debug ready bios, that XDK is pretty old tho I know DVT4s are like clear case style and has a lpt port on the rear, used to have one just like it ages ago! Miss it so bad! Drives can be thompsons and a few other brands as well just like what they used in the retail xbox units. I'd guess the Phillips were the best out of all of these but still I see thompsons rocking on solid sometimes!
Not sure if there's a way to find out if it's from a development co. Or if someone just slapped it onto there, is it even out? If not then yeah prob from the dev co.

Ive got a beta version of Dark Summit, but its running on an Alpha kit. Feel free to Youtube it.

Pikkon, don't a select few DVT3's have a normal Jewel? I seem to recall that.

^ Hmm when I think about it it does ring a bell but the best way is to crack open the case and look at the MCPX chip.

Yeah I'm not so keen on opening it lol. This baby is MINT not a single scratch or scuff. I think its pretty safe to call it a dvt4 its an Aug 2001 and from what i've read thats normally a dvt4. Just really dont wanna brick it updating the xdk as I still wanna play with it a bit lol.
