Devkits: Where do you get them?

I fully admit I am new to these forums (seeing as this is my first post and all) but I have a serious question. Where are you guys getting these devkits? I've seen the 1 or 2 incomplete Dreamcast Katanas and a strange PCI based XDK disc emulator card on ebay but I've never seen a full Xenon XDK, or a PS2 Tool. Incidently I stumpled on to this forum while searching for a teardown of the PS2 Tool Devkit.

I'm an avid fan of the dreamcast and have a small collection of games, consoles, and accessories, but I don't have a Katana and would love to get a working one for my collection.

To make a long post short, Where do you guys get these devkits? Would it be possible to get my mits on a katana (or any devkit for that matter)? Anyone have one to sell?

Almost all dev equipment is technically stolen.

Anyway, usually stuff gets pulled from eBay.

Because most dev stuff is stolen..

I get mine from the local grocery store, very friendly old couple.

I don't get it... I don't even give my cnosoles cosmetic mods... I prefer the "stock" look.

Jimmy gets them from steve. Steve won`t tell me where he gets them but I suspect they come from Donald.

 

something tells me that there is some complex (or overly simple) in out these devkits get disseminated... I probably starts with some guys stepping out of his office with a PS2 Tool down his pants...

Most of the devkits come from company liquidations or auctions. This happens when a company runs out of business or moves on to a next generation of consoles. Like this legendary picture of Assembler's collection:



As far as I know most (all?) of this was acquired when Acclaim died.
It seems like its a bit harder with current generation consoles, but they still leak through now and then.

I remember when that ASSEMbler's pic was posted, it was awesome.
You're at the best forum to get DevKits; look Ebay too, you can find DC DevKits every so often.

 

Nothing is bad if they dont catch you doing it - at least not for you!

One thing puzzles me about that photo, what are the units that are sitting on the arms of the sofa (and the two at the left foot of the sofa?)

 

They look like gang-writers (for writing data to multiple carts at once), but I could be wrong. No idea what system they'd be for...

Although, to be fair this was actually the haul down a very fat mans pair of pants - he smuggled them right out past Acclaims security. The very next day Acclaim folded, unable to proceed as they couldn't figure out what the hell had happened to their consoles :evil:
