DiCaprio to make a live-action version of Akira

I shit you not, from all the people in the world this was the last guy I thought would make this movie.

Apparently it will be based on the manga and not the anime, which I bet will cause an avalanche of dumb comments made by 13 year-old kids saying "the movie has nothing to do with the original one" since they didnt read the manga...

Let's just hope hollywood doesnt fuck the original concept, like they always do.

Why worry about Celine Dion's inability to sing, it's DiCaprio's inability to act that bothers me :-(

I actually like DiCaprio as an actor. He was great in The Departed and Blood Diamond. Catch Me If You Can was good, too. I don't know about him doing Akira though...

At least he was great in The Beach - in the part in the jungle when it looks like he's in a game ;D

 

He's not bad if he's well-directed. The movie could be good I assume... but it should be more of an "inspired by" thing. If they name some white kid Tetsuo, I will beat an old woman.

Well I hope its done right,most likely it will be cheesy.And a live action Dragonball movie is coming out as well lol.

he is, or better say, was one of the most talented actors of our time. just, he didn't play always in the right movies!

 

I like that movie. Dunno bout Akira, of course. Although, I think I watched half of Akira on mute, and thats about it.

 

I watched all of Akira only within the last year or so.

The script in the last few parts literally turns into:

"KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" and "TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

I've also learned this is a big running joke in the Anime community, but still.

 

To me, DiCaprio will always be Arnie Grape!
But yeah, he's done some pretty solid and respectable roles and movies.
So I wouldn't say it's the end of the world.

And I guess there's some sort of anime license insanity going on now these days.

You've got Speed Racer (Orig: Mach GoGoGo - Matrix&Co), Robotech (Orig: Macross - Tobey Maguire producing + attached) and then there's ofcourse always the everlasting question of what's happening to the Evangelion license (WETA still has their concept art stuff up and is probably still attached), and now also DiCaprio's producing a two part Akira license. Those are only the ones on top of my head, and I bet there are more of them lurking around.

Actually, I liked him in Departed. He is a good actor. You guys are just jealous of his reputation as a teen bopper .

Is he playing Kaneda or Tesuo???

I gotta get a hold of the manga. I LOVE the movie. Best Anime, ever, IMO.
