Hey all As many, in this fast paced world. I find myself overweight. Not a "My god, You Live On Fast Food!" overweight, but more of a "your a fatass" overweight. We've been having some really nice weather recently, and combining that with the image in the mirror, i know, that it's time i go on a diet, to lose some much needed weight. It's ruined parts of my life in the past, and i want it gone...I'm against gyms, as there've been one to many scams with them around here lately, and that "magic lose 100 pounds overnight" pill wont cut it either. I was wondering, if any of you would care to share some advice?... Ryan My 1000th Post!!!!
Not sure if this is the type of stuff you were asking for but, A few basic things you might consider: Cut back on starchy, high calorie, low protein foods such as pasta, white bread, rice etc. Use wheat pasta and wheat or whole grain breads. Cut back on sugar filled foods or drinks, especially soda. It's just empty calories. Cut back on processed meats as they are usually higher in fat and salt (which will increase water retention) Use fresh deli(although it can be a bit expensive) And try to stick to leaner meat like turkey or chicken. Tuna is good also. If you use ground beef try to buy the "higher grade" if available which will have less fat. Increase the amount of fiber you eat (just don't overdo) with things such as shreaded wheat, oatmeal, raisin bran, triscuit style crackers etc. This can help you feel 'full' without adding a bunch of calories to an individual meal. For snacks, eat something that has a decent amount of protein. (around 10grams or more) This will keep you fuller, longer than something that has a majority of carbs or calories. Aerobic exercise is always good just be sure to drink enough water and perhaps take a daily multivitamin if you don't already. If your muscles get sore you can stretch them and increase your antioxidant intake with either the vitamin and or things with natural antioxidants such as orange juice and any tomato product. off topic: Happy 1000th post!
gaming247 lists good starting points. My suggestion is to discipline yourself to eat regular meals, most importantly breakfast. Why? Because you want your body's metabolism to recondition itself and in the habit or burning calories on a regular basis. If you eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and 1 or 2 healthy snacks throughout the day, you'll definitely see results. This is not an excuse to gorge yourself with Twinkies and Doritos for lunch and dinner though...it's going to take some responsibility and discipline on your part. There's no quick path to success.
i lost like 20pounds eating tuna fish sandwiches and drinking water, ofcourse i gained it all back when i went back to school with my friend the candy man....
yea, you all make valid points, I'm trying not to over do what i eat in a day..for example today i ate: Breakfest 1 bowl of honey bunches of oats 1 orange juice 1 tea Lunch 1 bottle of water(orange flavored 1 sandwhich consisting of wonder plus bread, and some chicken meat 1 apple half a apple granola bar Dinner 4 perogies 1 sausage with some ketchup 1 bottle of water Anything else 1 macadamia nut cookie I dont think thats reasonably bad, its on average of what i normally have each day. however, i think i should look into a ddr game, or eye toy kinetic.....or bring out those old workout tapes lol Ryan My 1002th Post!!!
I remember when I was in elementary school I basically stopped eating meat and lost over 20 pounds in a few weeks. I would try to cut on snacks and take a small stroll everyday. If you drink soda I would revert to water.
Right now, I am pretty much surviving on Crystal Light Lemonade, Boca Burgers and imitation crab meat.
I wouldn't say diet, i'd say change your eating habits to something healthier but still makes you feel full but not high in calories and saturated fat. For the past 2 months I've been exercising and dieting and I've lost 20 pounds so far and gone from 34inch waist to 32inches, I now weigh 170, still trying to loose more. What I'm about to tell you is how I started out on my endeavor to get rid of my gut... Cut out fast food completely. Try to. Try to stay away from it for at least week, and I mean all kinds of takeout food including Chinese, anything greasy and fried. If you accomplish that then thats a sign that you can continue on without eating any fast food at all. Also, cut out all kinds of soda. Iced Tea is ok to drink but mostly drink water or make your own juice, don't buy juice from the store or concentrate as those contain a lot of sugars. Cut out coke and/or pepsi, mountain dew, etc. Start cutting out foods high in saturated fat and do not consume anything with trans fat. Cut out candy, like snickers. Its still ok to eat chocolate but in more moderation than you have before. Basically, start reading the nutrition labels in the back. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Eat more chicken and fish than red meat and pork. Drink water, tea (freshly brewed tea), skim milk and wine (if you're of age - stay away from beer and hard liqour). Start bringing your own lunch to work/school, like a turkey or tuna sandwich (not ham) or Healthy Choice brand soup lunch cups (they have lowest amount of sodium than the other kinds of soups) because they only have around 170-180 calories. Anything that is low in calories, low in fat, have that for lunch. Cut down on your carb and fat intake during the day so that you're body takes in only the amount of calories it actually uses up and does not store the rest as fat but make sure you are taking in the recommended amount of vitamins and proteins! Good source of protein is from fermented tofu, almonds, walnuts, and fish. Once you establish a healthier eating habit start exercising. Mainly jogging. Start small though, especially if your body hasn't done it in a while. stretch properly and never exercise with an empty stomach or full stomach. Drink something like Propel. It has simple carbs taht preps your body for the workout because if you want to lose weight you have to work on burning fat, not carbs, but never start exercising without any carbs in you, so drink a bottle of propel before exercising and always stay hydrated if you have sweated a lot. If you do this, by starting to change your eating habits and exercising (jogging because it is great for your heart) within 3 months you will start to see changes, pants fit looser, you have more energy, you feel good, etc. I've kicked it into high gear with this around march and since then i've lost 17pounds (weigh 174lbs) and gone from size 34 to 32 waist. I also no longer eat fast foods anymore but if I have to I try to have their healthiest item or just less. Its all about commitment and looking at what you eat. I used to weigh 195lb a year ago, and was a 36waist but this was all last year. Around march I weighed around 190 (not really sure about weight) and was a 34waist, and that was when I started to be more diligent and started running every other day, at least 2 miles on weekdays and 4 miles on weekends. I'm at the point where I can run a full two miles. If there is a park nearby that has a foot trail, go there to walk/jog. If you have to, and can afford it, go to a gym, but look for locally owned ones, not major chain ones like Bally or LA fitness where they make you sign contracts, etc. Go to one thats open 24/7 and you pay per hour. Like the YMCA or Golds Gym.
I stopped drinking soda completly for about 40 days and lost i think 7 pounds, so yeah stopping soda definetly contributes. Does playing a lot of DDR and Eyetoy really help? I'm not like....fat or anything but I am a bit out of shape (weigh 180, but I had to put weight back on after I got majorly sick a few years ago and dropped down to about 130, and I'm pretty tall...now I need to get in shape)
I read somewhere that (Japanese) green tea helps increase your metabolism and may aid in weight loss. If gym is not your thing, try swimming freestyle instead.
I have the vague philosophy that you can eat (almost) what the hell you like as long as you exercise accordingly. I get up everyday and do a solid half an hour of weights before I do anything. (but that is more for toning) Other than that I try and put in at least an hour of exercise everyday. Whether that be badminton, kendo, cricket, squash or a run in the park (sprinting whenever I can). Good luck with it all and I'm sure you can surprise yourself with how much you can loose in a week.
Get a DDR pad. And a real one (Red Octane, Cobalt Flux, etc.), not one of those Power Pad rejects.
Walk. Simply, just walk, and eat less calories then you need per day to survive. You'll be hungry as hell for a few days, but then the body will switch to burning fat. Cabbage, cucumbers, etc all have such low caloric value, one could die eating cucumbers alone. You can get metabolic meds, but they have a price. Speed up your metabolisim, your life is shortened, there's no way around it. It's like steroids. There is a price to pay. Eat portions of lean grilled chicken and veggies. Avoid fatty dressings. Good old balsamic vinegar works great.
I couldn't agree more with Assembler. Go out, get a little exercise (walk, cycle) every day and just watch what you eat. I not one for telling people what they should eat, just keep everything in proportion, one hamburger won't ruin your diet. Just don't snack too much Exercise is way more important than diet (certainly it was for me)
Not really. You can't eat anything you like so as long as you exercise and burn it all off. You can still have a high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and hardened arteries if you continue eating high amounts of saturated fats and trans fat (which you should try not to consume at all). You can still eat fried foods so as long as its fried in coconut oil. There are good fats your body needs such as omega3 fatty acids, which is found in fish, fish oil. You can increase your metabolism by eating foods high in protein that with hardly any carbs and good fats like unsaturated fat and some small amounts of saturated fats. That is the basis of the atkins diet and what you will basically be doing is still get the recommended amounts of nutrients your body needs, like proteins, but for energy you are hardly getting it from foods but more from the fat you have stored. It is a very tricky diet and you really have to research the foods you can eat that will help you accomplish this. Then there are protein shakes you can buy at GNC. Those are ok to drink, they do work, just don't over do it because too much protein in you can causse kidney and liver damage and higher pH level in your blood. Don't take those pills that boost your metabolism as they contain hormones derived from animals and can swell your thyroid glands if your body can not handle it. Just stick to dieting and exercising. That is a long term task but the benefits are long term as well, you keep the weight off and have a healthy cardiovascular system as well. It is all about control. I still eat hamburgers, just not McDonalds, I cook my own with lean ground sirloin that has 3-5% fat, but not as often as before. I eat more chicken/turkey (breasts and wings only as those are healthier than the thighs and legs). Pick up this book. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/08...102-5557873-7100137?s=books&v=glance&n=283155 It is like an encyclopedia of what foods have high amounts of nutrition, etc. and has recipese in it as well. It is not really a diet book, dieting is temporary, it helps you change your eating habits for good.
Well I just had the same problem. I started a "soup" diet, lost 20 pounds in almost 4 weeks. I didn't even do a strick diet, I did the soup diet in the week and on weekends I ate normaly. If you want the diet plan let me know, I just gotta translate it. But if you want to keep the weight, you gotta change your eating habits as well. I don't eat a lot of meat anymore, more salad, more fruits, basicly healthy shit. And if you don't want to go to a gym, try out the eyetoy kinetic "game". seriously, that gets your butt moving for sure! All you need is the ps2 eyetoy cam and the game + a big room for the workout. It has qiute a good plan and its fun, too To sum it all up: -Do a diet and get rid of your weight. (i.e. soup diet) -Eat healthy to stay at that weight -Do exersice, even if its just the eyetoy kinetic game
Are you talking about the medication shortening your lifespan? From how I read it, you're saying that people with higher metabolism have shorter lifespans, which doesn't seem right. My dad is in his mid-50's, and he doesn't look a day over 35. We eat pretty much whatever we want. I don't consider myself a pig or anything, since I often go days without eating at all, but I also have my days where I eat a good amount of donuts/cookies (just junk food). If you want something fun to do while still working out (and you have a lot of money to burn ), try paintballing. That will work out muscles you didn't know you had. I couldn't walk right for a few days after I last went, since I was so sore. For the record, I'm around 6'/2" 145 pounds.
Hey, thanks for the link Madhatter! I may be thin, but that's because I have a naturally high metabolism. It does not mean I am healthy! I've been working on getting in shape this summer. I've started Mountain Biking again, but what I really need to do is start a good healthy diet. I'll look into getting me a copy of this book!
Wowzers, quite a few suggestions. Thanks! I think for the most part, im cutting off the cola,(i used to have 1 a day) killing out the junk food..eat some more fish(i wonder if the 2 year old halibut is still good)....hehehe Bigsexyolli, could you translate that perhaps? And I've started going for longer walks ...... How many calories are need each day?...... Thanks for the help Ryan
