    I second this.

Green tea is great, even if it wont make you lose lots of weight it does help you digest!

Green Tea is pretty much the most healhty thing on the planet that doesn't taste like complete shit. Studies have shown it prevents cancer as well (why do you think lung cancer isn't prevelent in such a smoke-friendly country?).

Anyways, I have lost and gained quite a bit of weight. Over the last 12 years, in pounds, I've gone from 252->175->185->200->180 and I'm now about 190. I'm 6'3". I wore the 250+ well when I played football in high school, but all the weed and beer in college made me turn into a fat ass.

I can't tell you how much exercise helps. I've got one word, and one word only = cardio. You should do this when you're in shape anyway. Run as much as you can. Every day if you can. Even if you suck at first. I used to could run only half a mile, even when I was down in weight... I was just out of shape. Now I run 4 miles on a semi-regular basis.

The other thing that I've not done super well, but definitely helps is to split your meals up. Don't eat 3 meals, and definitely don't make your last one the biggest. You should eat 5, if not 6. Breakfast, then break your lunch up into two, then break dinner up into two. It will raise your metabolism if you eat less in one setting. It will also make excercise a lot easier.

The last thing. Quit drinking cokes. God Damn, these things are the devil. If you're a heavy coke drinker and you switch to water, you'll notice the difference in a week. If you must have the coke, get the diet stuff. Diet Pepsi w/ Vanilla is actually tasty. water is your friend though, and again, will make your excercise a lot easier.

I actually am starting a diet today, myself. I did some relatively heavy weight training for the last 2 months. I gained muscle, but of course, fat too, so it's time to get rid of it. I'll get a 12" veggie sandwhich from Subway, which I'll eat half of at dinner time, and the other half about 2 hours later.

Look around on the net. There are some great forums with pointers on how to get in shape. The before and after pictures for motivation are always recommended.

    Good luck!

I suggest you try to start to jog. you burn more calories that way, you condition your heart better, build more blood vessels.

There are calorie charts on the net. The amount you burn depends on your weight and body fat. Me, I have a 2,000 calorie average, which is what all nutrition labels on foods are based around. Thats pretty much what everyone burns too. The only way to tell how many calories you truly burn, you have to have some tests done on you, but chances are that you burn around the same amount most everyone does. What is important is to not go over 2,000 calories, because the left over stuff is stored as fat, unless you do some rigorous activity to burn that off. You also have to look into the type of calories you take in, whether they are from carbohydrates, or fats, and from there you have complex carbs vs. simple carbs and then from unsaturated fats you have monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated. An example of simple carb is from propel or gatorade, great to have if you'll be working out on an empty stomach (ie no food in your stomach in the past 2+hours) because they give the right kind of carbs your body can start to burn until you switch over to burn your fat stored in you. However, when that happens you will experience what runners call 'hitting the wall', which is simply you running out of that quick source of energy and starting to switch over to bu rning fat which is takes more energy to burn therefore you feel like stopping what you're doing.

Now, before you go and do any type of rigorous exercise like jogging, especially if you haven't done anything physical like that in over 2+years, go to your doctor and have them do a series of stress tests, especially a maximal treadmill test. That test helps them and you figure out your limits and find any blood clots you may have that have developed over the years of inactivity.

Wow...I never knew so many guys could care so much about dieting and weight loss. I'm glad to know it's not just girls who worry about there things. I agree with most people on here. If your active you really can eat just about whatever you want and still look presentable. But, who am I to talk I'm currently on a Timmy's and smoke diet. *shrugs* However I have lost 32lbs in like 5 weeks

Ryan if you don't live in a big house and don't want to spend money on GYM's then your not going to lose weight. I reccomend going to a YMCA where you can pay a dollar a day just to go to the GYM.

IF not then do what I do and walk from one Ocean to another. I just mark a path on a map and follow it, sometimes I spend my time on the beach just picking up shells and lying in the sin with my fatty gut, and then by the time I get back home I lose a couple pounds or my mower area goes down.

I also do Yoga and strech my body.

Lastly the weight lifting, SInce you have a big gut I am guessing you need to lose that by running and then work on your abs. Right now you should have a pair or weights you lift from time to time. I suggest getting a tape just from that area and following instructions. I also Suggest pump it up from Arnold Schwarzenegger and checking out other body mad men like that guy who started the whole radio Muscle show program or the creator of Conan who commited Suicide.

    Thats my advice.

Yeah Hatter's got it right, it's all about jogging. At my apartment is a workout room with a treadmill. I started on that thing and could only go for 10 minutes (about a mile or so.) I felt like I was going to die, but I kept at it and lost 30 lbs. No joke, didn't change my eating habits or anything. Don't bother with those ski machines or excersize bikes, they stink (at least they didn't work for me.) What the jogging does is get your cardiovascular system in shape, then you'll start losing poundage. And it gets easier to do when you start seeing results. I went from 230 to 203 in about two months and have kept it off for a year, it's awsome. It's also pretty amazing how little you actually have to do to see results, it's more making it part of your routine. Like plan your day out to include a 30 minute workout from the begining, and just keep at it until it starts paying off. Good luck.

If you need some good advice regarding a balanced diet that suits your daily needs , visit a professional. That way you will avoid any side-effects of "home brew" or "general" methods that don't take into consideration your personal needs and strengths in nutritional issues.

Due to the nature of my part-time job (modeling) what most people come to consider as a diet, I consider to be routine I guess

I openly admit that I rarely eat what I want to eat, and I'm sick and tired of eating plain egg-whites everyday along with your standard carb be it pasta or something (i hate bread) . But it's cheap and efficient for me (my food expense is down to less than 80 pounds a month, which is an economic success) and although not varied I still live healthier (Technically) than most people who eat even "home made" food (without them considering the amounts of oils and sugars they intake).

Anyway, if you want to lose weight the general rule is to avoid eating saturated fats and sugars (both are listed behind most goods you buy) or keep their intake to a minimum. Alot of cardio exercise is also needed to burn stored fat (30 minutes on a track @ 6Km/h, 3-4 days a week should cut it). Most importantly however, you have to make healthy eating and exercising part of your life, and not just your "slim period".

Please keep in mind that "not eating" is not a solution. Most people who diet, forget to consume enough protein to suit their muscle-needs. An average male needs 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body-weight in a work-out period. Considering that you want to lose weight and you re not working out (I assume), your needs might be around the 1.5 gram per kilo border.
Vitamin C is very important for protein/aminoacid pumping in the body as well, so eat your fruits. Avoid sweet fruits if possible. For good carbs, weetabix-style cerial is the kind of thing to keep in mind - any cerial containing sugars is gonna end up in fat. Also, avoid fried foods.

saturated fat-> fat in the body
un-used carbs-> fat in the body
alcohol -> fat in the body
sugars(the "worst" form of carbs) -> 99% of the time to end up as fat in the body (1% reserved only for work-out periods, where the body burns the sugar instead of the protein -if both present)

Upon losing weight, you might consider gaining muscle-mass for the extra wow effect on chicks, but thats another discussion, much longer than the weight-loss one, and this is not the right forum to talk about it lol

The only reason I would say go for real outdoor running as opposed to the treadmill, is that the change of scenery makes it so boring, by 2 miles, I"m dead. I can handle 4 outside in nice weather. I realize not everyone has that where they live though.

Or you can put a TV on top of your treadmill showing scenes of nature, etc. to make time pass by.

Anything ranging from catwalks, advertisments/brochures or photoshoots. Depends on the occasion really. As I am a student, I can't afford (time-wise) a full time job, so it's "easy" money on an ad-hoc basis. For your reference, you can visit the introductory thread , somewhere around the last pages there should be a casual picture and brief description of what I study etc.

EDIT: Why are you surprised by the way?:p

The trick I use is to count my footfalls up to 100, then start again. Helps keep the pace and keep my mind off of being tired/winded/sweat dripping in my eyes and blinding me/God-damn-feet-hurt/etc.
