I think we are talking about REAL FF games on a Nintendo console, not games that had their name changed to bolster sales... The only reason why Square makes FF games for the PS2 and the GBA is profits. Lets see here.. Sony is leading in the console race and in the handheld arena Nintendo is owning everyone else. Seems to me Square likes to make games for consoles that will make them the most money! Would it really make sense to make ports of FF1 and 2 to the PSP instead of the GBA? No it would not because the target audience of the PSP is more interested in 3D and media features.

are you talking about ffta? or ff1+2? well, i think ff1+2 will do better on the gba considering its portable, it has more stuff on it, and fforigins came out near ps1,s death. so, im not sure if it was fully appreciated by gamers or not.

What do you think this is, Gamefaqs? Only a Sony fanboy wouldn't know, eh? Square hasn't exactly pushed these it out either and has been fairly quiet about them so you can't really blame people fo not knowing. Last time I checked not knowing about all the GBA releases did not make you a Sony fanboy.

Saying that Square will go back with Nintendo is like saying Sega will re-enter the console race tomorrow. It's not going to happen unless Nintendo suddenly inherits a crap load of money and gets to first in the console race. As I said before it does not make business sense to return the FF series to Nintendo consoles for anything but spin offs. It does make sense for them to make games for the GBA though.

Feel free to try and label me a fanboy for stating facts...

Well that quote was mainly refering to FF:CC and other spin offs like tactics.

huh? what was FF:CC? what do you mean name change on this??
was it on, or planned for something sooner?

well, ffta wasnt exactly a spin-off...but having fft in it got a lot of people exicted. it had the same names and stuff, but it was a totally different game.

    Oh christ.
Let's play it your way then. Had you actually read my post, instead of blatantly skimming over the majority of it, you would have noticed that I own a Gamecube and not a PS2 - I think that kind of excludes me from the PS2 fanboy arena, no? Besides which I'd like to think that on this board, at least, people could speak their mind about a particular platform without the endless finger pointing and torrents of "fanboy!" abuse from the "other side". For fuck's sake.

Back on topic: There's a good reason Square won't be so eager to make another Final fantasy game on a Nintendo console (not handheld, it's a completely separate commercial arena and you know it). Chrystal Chronicles didn't sell well. It's that simple. Forget CD media, forget "fanboy", forget GBA FF sales: the game didn't sell, and Square will think again before risking commercial investment in a platform which failed to make them money. Then factor in Sony's displeasure should the Gamecube get a real Final Fantasy game...

Since you want to drag the GBA into this: GBA sells exceptionally well so naturally Square are going to develop for it, and naturally the games will sell well. Handhelds are a completely different market. As long as GBA (or in the future, DS) sells by the millions, Square will be more than happy to churn out ports of their older titles; they're doing pretty nicely no doubt. This has nothing to do with Gamecube. Loyalties don't carry across the console/handheld divide, not yet anyway.

I'd love to see Gamecube get a proper FF game, God knows it needs one, I just don't see why Square would shoot themselves in the foot. They risk alienating Sony and losing money. Why would you take that risk as a company?

    ...

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals is a GC game and it's only relation to the GBA is that it is required for multiplayer. I might also add that it was designed as a multiplayer game despite the fact that it has single player. It did not do well because the main FF audience is on the PS2 and the GBA multiplayer requirement turned even more people off. One things is for sure though, if it didn't have the Final Fantasy prefix it would have sold even worse.

indeed , nintendo must stop this. but i think they understood, well for the next-gens anyway. just take a look at the DS , they've understand that online is better than ''conectivity'' , contrary to what they where saying 2 years ago.
Well, i hope they learned... (the hangman should be here.).

anyway, square still look for another gc game, they said this....

I don’t think Nintendo and Square Enix will ever have a firm relationship until Hiroshi Yamauchi is dead and gone. He might not be the president of Nintendo but he still carries power and his dislike of Square is well known.

Personally what I would love to see is for Square to let Miyamoto have a crack at Final Fantasy and Nintendo to let Square have a crack at Zelda. Now that would be cool but I don't see it happening any time soon.

  13. So... I'm looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy 1 + 2 on GBA, yessiree. Final Fantasy on the NES was the first game I bought with my very own money, way back when it was brand new. Still have it too, I can't wait to revisit the worlds that first got me into RPGs and the FF series. And I can't wait to see what they have done with that catchy music that has stuck with me since day one!

Yep, it's gonna be fun. You can go back to arguing now. :smt043

Straight port of the Wonderswan versions from what I hear. I have both, and while very pretty, will look a bit dated on the GBA

True. I don't own a GBA, and I don't see why I should have to, to fully enjoy an RPG. Both Chrystal Chronicles and Four Swords both require a GBA (or 4) to get the most out of them. If this irritates me, I don't want to know what the average gamer thought.

I looked for sources for this, but I couldn't find any. Got any links?
