Sorry, but I don't deal with modchips. Somebody else needs to recommend you one that works well, in general.

No problem :) I'll look into the ones Bad_ad has for sale.

So which chip would need to be swapped with the boot ROM? I thought that the MECHACON was the RS200x chip that controls the drive, which doesn't seem to be paired. Or am I mistaken?

The MECHACON is the drive MECHanics CONtroller, which seems to be different on nearly every mainboard model out there. But I don't know whether you can just swap the MECHACON or not because it might be checking on other chips like the SYSCON.

Really, it's more trouble than it's worth, especially because the solder work is not easy. Otherwise, people would have already been doing this, since it means a change in the console's region. If you can somehow get another MECHACON chip and matching boot ROM, it means that you could get another console.

Only the Protokernel units, the SCPH-10000 and SCPH-15000, do not have their MECHACONs paired with their boot ROMs.

Yes! I finally got this to work :)

Bought a DMS4 Pro months ago, but didn't have time to install it, until yesterday. I have installed ToxicOS 0.41 and I have disabled PSX video fix.

At first this didn't work either, but after a lot of trial and error I found that I have to use PS1VModeNeg V0.91 rather than 1.01. Now it works great every time :)

I can boot US/JAP PS1 games with correct refresh-rates by doing a few simple steps:

    Method 1:
Boot into FMCB > Launch the File Manager > Launch PS1VModeNeg V0.91

    Method 2:
Boot into ToxicOS > Launch uLaunchELF (I used the File Manager on the FMCB memory card) > Launch PS1VModeNeg V0.91

Method 1 is probably the fastest method right now. Method 2 might be faster if I install the apps onto my Harddrive, but that might cause the harddrive to keep spinning, and it's LOUD! :)

While in the File Manager (uLaunchELF) there's no need to access the disc's content first, as it was speculated earlier in the thread.

Unfortunately, booting either version of PS1VModeNeg from FMCB or ToxicOS directly does not work.

My console is a European Fat V9. I've also tried getting this to work with a Modbo 760 and a Ghost 2, but with no luck. DMS4 Pro seems to be the only reliable option unfortunately :/

Thank you very much sp193 and keropi, who both have been extremely helpful over PMs and emails to help me get this working! Now that the games run stutter-free, and I can actually stand to play them, I can start collecting for the PS1 :D

Yeah it would be nice if a step could be skipped. But it still beats having to import another system :)

EDIT: Attached is V0.91 of PS1VModeNeg, since it's missing from sp193's site atm :)
