This is just me complaining or ranting about why do some people really don't care if it's someones birthday or not, is it just plain rudeness, laziness (not really a massive issue if forgotten) or just a cold blooded person? But yet people wanna celebrate or start throwing parties if it were a celebrity, famous YouTuber, or a well known hacker/group worker! It just twists my mind sorta but understandable at times. What do you guys think?
For me birthdays remind me that we continually get older so I ignore them the best I can. It doesn't help that mine is on Chrismas...
To me, birthdays are like Christmas, Easter, etc. They are great until you realise the fakeness behind each one. And once you get your own pay packet, any day can be your birthday - just buy a cake! They aren't that special as everyone has one. We don't celebrate having toes do we? Although I will admit I do like having toes as they help us to keep our balance... Maybe birthdays should become toe-days? :suspicion:
I suppose in some cases it could be people that are rude or lazy that don't care about birthdays. Then again, it could just be that birthdays aren't anything special in and of themselves. To be blunt, we technically only have one birthday as we're born once. If celebrating that day annually from then on makes others feel better, then so be it. But it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you sit and think about it. That said, I do have a rather large family and am constantly forced to celebrate the birthdays of others, so maybe I'm just a little bored of them.
It's just another day in my book , the only Holidays that should really matter would be St. Patty's Day and Halloween
To me birthdays are meaningless, its just counting the number of revolutions around the sun you have made. I don't celebrate it.
You guys are right very vaild points at that and shouldn't be taken into serious concertations lol & like ya said it is just another day imho. The only good or average reason why. Thanks guys!
If there's anything to be learnt from this, it's that you should buy a cake if you feel like a cake! It's only a lie if you want it to be! :encouragement:
Man, what a bunch of miserable bastards. Birthdays are fun because for one day in the whole year you have a special day just for you. It's fun and nice to give and receive presents. Lighten up guys. Birthdays are far better than stupid shit like St. Patrick day and the likes of IMO.
I may be a miserable bastard but in my current line of work we have no breaks. I may get an hour long party then back to the grindstone despite it being both my birthday and Christmas. That's the other reason for my "meh" approach to them. It's my "birthday" every time I buy something from eBay and it arrives in mail. Like my recent acquisition of an Android PC TV stick and Motorola lapdock. Made out like a bandit on those thanks to the good deals I got.
Meh... If I think someone deserves a present, I will give it whatever day of the year, whats the point of waiting till birthday? As for myself, i dont require any present, birthday or not, it has no influence on my level of happiness in life. I explicitly told all my friends and what little family I have, dont ever give me presents on special occasions. Because I wont return the favor.
Burn the holidays to the ground! Want a present? Buy it yourself! That's what income is for. Sure if you are a 13 year old it is fun to go to Grandmas and get presents and cake. I make sure every day is Shane McRetro Day! :biggrin-new:
I'm personally not fussed about the presents aspect it of it anymore, given that I can just buy anything I happen to want. That said it's a good excuse to see people and have a bit of fun so I'm all for that! I wouldn't want to take them away from anyone, and I certainly loved them when I was younger. Seeing the look on someone's face when they're given something they wanted is sweet. Giving presents is more worthwhile for me than receiving them.
It' more a kid's thing, IMO. When I see a dad or mom caring too much about it, I believe that that person had special moments in his/her past, when a kid. Most parents just tend to (or try to) replicate their childhood with their kids. I think that's valid, and if you think about it, those miserable people like drugged people or murderers or very ignorant people that don't care about anything or respect others or even the plants and animals are mostly people with bad parents and bad childhood. Yes I blame the parents first when I see very young people working or doing wrong things and admitting it. And mostly blaming their lives. I blame their parents and the parents of their parents. Some families are so screwed that this is not going to end soon. Also, there's a cultural thing. In Japan that's a very strong thing. Just look at the games. You have Birthdays for Sonic, for Virtua Fighter characters, Street Fighter characters. Today that's not that easy to spot, but in the Instruction Booklet games era, that was big. (anime characters too, and don't forget the zodiac sign!)
Well I know some countries don't, and some families I've known in the past don't. For me I've always had a birthday party with my family, but I haven't had a birthday party with my friends for years. Simply because I don't know many people regardless and it would feel the same even if I saw them the next day. So for me, yes I care about birthdays and I will say "Happy Birthday" to people I know. Nothing beats a small birthday party and lunch with my family.
I like to celebrate my birthday. I get money from reletives which I can carelessly spend on retro goodies. Then again, i'm only 16 (17 in 2 days) and at this point things like a reminder of age are a somewhat positive thing and I can see why as you get older, it probably losses its effect. For now, birthdays are great.:smile-new: I'm going to spend my money on a sega saturn and a GB flash cart.
