I used to sell my old stuff but now I regret losing a lot of it, so I'll never again sell anything.

Now I just accumulate. I just moved into a house from an apartment, and so I shouldn't be having storage problems for awhile.

i used to have a massive assorted games collection but after i left home i just packed it up into my parents dry and sealed Loft. Then when we needed to clear some stuff out i thought i would sort and sell it as i only ever needed my PS2/Xbox at the time... i cleared it all out and the funds payed for us to get completely setup for when my daughter was born (i.e. Buggy, cot etc)

Since i have started picking up cheap consoles again here and there and had just under 100 PSX/PSone until more recently (that was a bulk buy mind! lol) along with the usual doubles/triples of other games systems im still eluded by a reasonably priced Mega Drive!!! i am soo after one (budget mind of course ) and need to clear loads of stuff out..

    anyone after swaps? lol

oh and im thinking of cutting back my PSX Software collection as alot of it is made up of titles i have never or will never really play.. ive become more of a player then a collector i think. Even though having lots of stuff is nice, there is other priorities and such (space especially!) which come first...

    I`m up there with GLEAVEPAUL

    Don`t ever sell anything

Even my son`s stuff I don`t let him trade...well hardly ever

Only time I trade is if I pick up an bundle of stuff that I get just to trade in for credits

    Otherwise everything stays!!

Why be a collector to get rid of stuff

    Game fan, then yes

I made a quick cleanout before I moved to reading.

Out of just duplicate games, I managed to make over £300!

Though I never clear out unless I have a duplicate.

The exception being Resident Evil 2, I currently own multiple copies of it for each platform... I just couldn't stop buying it whenever it was traded in to the shop and I could purchase for pennies on staff discount.... Yeah, I have issues.

I have real problems with my collection, it goes in more directions than I can finance and I get very frustrated.

It started as a huge Sega collection with emphasis on Sonic stuff, then expanded into Squaresoft stuff and then British home gaming, such as sinclair and commodore.

Now I pretty much grab anything I can afford but I want to focus mainly on my Sonic collection as I've missed so many good items over the years through being distracted by something else.

I'm learning to really think about what stays and goes too, I've had 3 Sega saturns and 3 Dreamcasts in as many years, just because I get bored and sell them for something else...now I know I will definately keep the ones I have, I've learnt my lesson. I've also sold the systems which don't compliment sonic games (which is becoming increasingly difficult due to Sega's multiplatform war machine.)

Focus is the key but I guess my system works in two parts, I have a solid non moving collection with a pretty fluid side collection full of items I buy mainly out of curiosity, coolness factor or for a profit, which eventually funds the main collection.

    Wii Sports: 56.00
    Bioshock Limited Edition: 50.00

This was all before any extra shipping costs, too. With it, I bought:

I suck at collecting, so I agreed with myself just to buy stuff for the experiance for example consoles or different models of consoles I never owned in the past I usually buy them, enjoy the view and test the games on them until the point that they bore me and then they go out the door again, tho I like to buy them fully boxed and in good condition to be sure they will be easy to get rid of in the long run.
I also have no space to keep everything anyway, and not enough money to keep collecting without selling some stuff sometimes :/

But I must admit, I always regret selling stuff, while when in my possession I always ask myself what the hell I need it for when I don't use it for ages..... this hobby is a constant struggle lol ;-)

I used to sell stuff on fairly regularly, but a few years ago (just before joining this place, incidentally) I stopped. My sister asked me to go through some stuff in her loft with her, and I realised that my Master System and SNES was up there, along with my Wild Card and Magicom (both in need of new floppy drives, SNES in need of a new PSU).

So, we're going through boxes, and I'm looking through all my old stuff and when I came to the box that should have had my old console stuff I looked through it and none of the stuff I was looking for was there - it was then that I realised that I'd tossed it all years before. I was gutted! Even though I hadn't thought about this stuff in a long time, I was actually looking forward to pulling it out again to see what I had.

While she was looking through a box, she found some of my brother-in-law's console stuff (an unboxed n64 with a couple of games, a boxed Playstation with a copy of Iggy Pop's Lust For Life still inside it, some Dreamcast pads), and I immediately grabbed it, saying that she couldn't toss this stuff, I would have it and where was the Dreamcast that I'd bought him thank you very much!

Binned it ages ago, she said.

Aghast, I went through every box in the loft (including some in nooks and crannies that made me glad I am 'double jointed' as I wormed my 6'1", 46" chest frame through them) and rescued a bunch of stuff.

Since then I've never gotten rid of a single piece of gaming hardware or software, and have bought tons of stuff that I'll never use simply because it was only a couple of quid, etc.

I literally went from not really caring about my gaming stuff (I had a PS2 and DC under the telly at the time, and would regularly buy games then trade them or sell them on when I finished them - if a game didn't get much use, it went immediately up for sale or trade without much thought) to obsessive hoarder in the space of a few seconds, and everytime I hear someone mention the SNES days or SNES backup units, I immediately harken back to that dark day.

    Never forget man, never forget!
