Do you clean out your old games and systems after awhile?

For me, yes. Every year, I try to clean out most of the old games I have beaten and do not plan on playing again. Its pretty good, since it allows me to get older games I might not have gotten the chance to play (For example: Bought Call of Duty 3 and Hitman: Blood Money on ebay for $30.00 the other day).

Best thing I do is have a shelf for all my games, one for my "must keep" games, and one for the games I have not beaten yet, beaten and do not want to keep, or plan to sell. Usually, I will sell the games I no longer want every Spring, Summer, and Fall/Winter. Granted, there are a few exceptions, such as rebuying old games when they are cheaper (Bought Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 on ebay for $20.00 since I sold it before beating it, and Zelda: Wind Waker and Master Quest for $30 since I lost the case to Wind Waker and still need to beat Master Quest).

I do it often. My collection ballooned while I was working before college, but now that Im at school, I realized whats the point. Ill prune the collection of games that I dont think theres even a remote chance of going back and playing. It just depends on the game. Other things stay though ;)

Unless it is a double I get in a bulk deal I will never sell any of my games or systems.

I never clean out, after all collecting is what I do. I must have about 350 consoles by now.

Man, I wouldn't be surprised if you could retire with all the stuff you have.

I don't know the meaning of 'clean out', I fear 'clean out' would mean getting rid of items that I'd one day regret getting rid of!

When I hit 250 something games I yanked out all the bullshit like Splinter Cell and Morrowind and crap like that, otherwise no. I still have all my stuff and can always hold that over people when they say "Man, I used to have that, but I sold it." Bam!

I'm a packrat, so I almost never sell or throw out anything game-related. So as a way to protect myself from going overboard on possessions, I make mostly selective choices before buying.

I'm not one of those "ooh! PAL Stadium Events!" collectors... :-D

Were there ever 350 consoles excluding the umpteen hundred pong consoles out there? If so, I bet you couldn't name them... :110:

I'm also a packrat, and I try not to sell my stuff. Whenever I do sell for money, I end up regretting it later. But I get that collecting in that manner doesn't work for all gamers. Also, given that retro releases and remakes occur with disturbing frequency, it's arguable that even the collectors aren't missing out.

I thought this was going to be able actual cleaning and repairing. :p

I don't get rid of things unless they are broken and I've salvaged everything useful from them. I think I have a broken PSX and a broken Saturn around here. The Saturn probably got +5v into the AV port somewhere and the color is fucked up (though I've not tested RGB). The PSX had a bad modchip install and when I went to remove the wires i just yanked on them (cause I didn't give a shit) and it pulled up the CD lid sensor circuit board trace. So I might be able to fix that later on.

Either way I don't see any point in throwing anything away, maybe selling it to someone else who can put it to use.

Until recently I wouldn't get rid of anything, until I realised that I hadn't turned on anything other than my 360/Wii (to play GCN games) in the last 18 months. Now I could be shot of all of it, if only the Mrs wasn't a collector as well...

Yeah, well it depends on what I end up with as I have been known to have several duplicates in the past. This year is the first in some time that I've not built consoles to give away to charity. For the last few years I've gone round various stores and taken their dead or dying consoles and put them back together again. Not got time this year and the guy who said he'd take over ended up sticking them on eBay (the pr*ck!)

I think the time will come that I am going to sell my PAL games b/c I have become a 100% jp soft collector. But generally, I never sell anything except somethings missing or the box is in bad condition (won't happen anymore actually, I'm just after the final cleanout of bad-conditioned games. Everything in my current collection looks quite acceptable I'd say).
I just replace things if better conditioned versions come along in bundles or somehow.

I'm constantly recycling my money. The only games which stay permanent are Sonic related or ones which I just cannot live without.
