Do you keep any consoles around just for looks?

In my dorm, between my room mate and I we've got a 360, Dreamcast, N64, SNES, Xbox, PS2, and GC prominently displayed. One day this dude walks in and was like, "Whoa, you have almost every console..."

    I just shook my head...

Yeah, I love that. You can't blame them or anything for not knowing of everything, but at least it makes you feel cool and stuff. I got that for having a Saturn.

Heh, yeah, I think it's the Dreamcast that makes people talk crazy like that. I don't know... I really want a Saturn... Actually, there's a lot of things I want. What I really want is my 360 back, I'm expecting it any day now!

Cool an NEC laseractive rather then the more common Pioneer one? I ask mainly as apart from two websites, and myself I've never seen anyone else with one, I posted a picture of it on Rarest console you own (go find it) and a few people said basically the same thing.

I have the Sega Wondermega as well as an unboxed Victor Wondermega and a MIB one too. I still prefer the Victor Wondermega as the white circle on the lid on the Sega one just looks a bit odd, the Victor one does look so clean and it's the only console I know that has a powered top loading motorised lid which is sexy in itself, plus the sound buttons just make it sound wonderful and the sound output from the headphone jack is very clean and doesn't have the buzz that the MD1 has. I used to power it via a switched mode PSU too as the beast requires such a lot of power...

The Neo Geo top loader does feel very plastic and cheap, the front loader is what it should have been front day one, although it's very large... Although the FM towns Marty 2 is rarer then the original, I still think the original is nicer to look at due to the single colour of the unit.

    our living room currently houses:

    3x GC's
    1x DC
    1x PS2
    1x Xbox
    1x Xbox 360

Soon it will be running the following:

    1x 360
    1x Xbox Slim
    1x PS2 (fat/slim - cant decide)
    1x PSX 7000
    1x PS3
    1x PS1 - Chipped
2x GC's (one NTSC) - Both to be replaced with a Chipped Wii at a later date.
    1x DC

and if i ever get myself a cheap CDi that too

oh and the other consoles will be cased individually and will come out on demand (NES, MD, N64, etc)

My recently aquire Panasonic Q, is sitting on the side all shiny and silver, but not turned on as made an effort recently to tidy up my office at home and only plug stuff in when it was needed to save the earth etc :)

So just on my desk, PC, Elite, 26in Samsung LCD , PS3 and Q.

Just bought some HD cables for my Wii so may promote that to my office for some 480P glory

Otherwise from an old post in your gaming set up, was getting a bit untidy and didn`t use 3 debugs, 1 dev kit, test nr readers so they are now in the loft/attic

I've got an odd mix of stuff out for display purposes. Everything that's hooked up to play is pretty common with the most unusual being a Laseractive covering Genesis/SCD duty (didn't have a good place to store it so I hooked it up).

As for my display pieces, some are rare but all are unusual in some way. I wanted to show consoles that non collectors would have most likely never seen before. Here's a pic:

    98pacecar, thats a sweet setup you've got there i'm jelous ;)

almost everything i have is hooked up as I like to play with it now and again, usually when it has been unplayed for a couple of months I sell it again as I am not a collector but more in it for the experiance, trying and the mystic around these items! the only thing I like to show to visitors (usually the only thing that impresses a non gamer/collector anyway) is my PS2 TOOL, it's a big hit!.. compared to lets say a debug xbox or NR reader where people tend to ask me why the hell I have it or what I am doing with these worthless pieces of junk/ old consoles in weird colors :p

I have to be careful and not make my girlfriend too mad or it may become a store without me knowing it!!

Thanks for the kind words guys! It's easy to impress non-collectors, but it's always nice when the people that know about and can appreciate the rare stuff are impressed! I'll have to post the rest of the pics I have in the collections section.

Sure is! I'm a bit of a Commodore junkie so having one of those was a high priority for me. I wish I had the box for it, but just having one is a feat given that I live in the US.

98PaceCar that is a really nice looking set up :love2: i'd love a glass display cabinet. I note you have a SG1000 Mark II, Mines boxed away but it's one that I really like the look of, the text on it is classic :icon_bigg

Thanks! That's actually a Mark III. I found it in Paris a few years ago and carried it back to the states by hand. It was very nerve wracking as the box is practically mint and I wanted it to survive in the same shape I bought it! It is a great looking console!

;-) I missed a Mark I locally a few weeks ago that I'm still kicking myself over. I've never seen a Mark II in person, but it's on my list. I'm concentrating on getting all US released consoles first and just grabbing Japanese and European consoles as I run across them for a good price right now.

I posted some more pics over in the collections forum. Figure I've derailed this thread enough!

I actually found it and another identical one on Craigslist. Bought them both for $250. I kept the nicer of the two and sold the other for $200. It was a major pain to move (that room is upstairs in my house), but it was well worth the effort as I love the way it looks!
