Do you like your anime Subbed or Dubbed?

Well, on the other hand, very often in subtitled productions, they totally mistranslate the in-joke or pun, and then NOT explain it. I'd love it if they expended some more effort into actually explaining or converting it into a way more truthful to the original, be it through explanation.

 

That was my argument - there's such an amount of effort required in explaining puns or cultural nuances in subtitles that they are often omitted or done in a really poor fashion.

I dont know why we dont get it. We use some digital cable nonsense that only has what my Dad wants, and G4 is just an extra for me. I asked him several times for me to just get a dish for my room, but the answer is always no, no, NO! And i'd rather buy other things than cable right now, too.

Anyway, I always watched them subbed were possible. Japanese characters talking in English is just wrong, and I hate it when they add in all these Americanisms and whatnot - some stuff that I don't even get - but then that's also sometimes a problem with subs and manga translations too. Took me like 2 years to find out what the hell a "sophomore" is! And the English dubbers rarely put as much effort into it (both production and acting-wise) as the original Japanese dubbers - it reduces the quality of the programs a lot of the time IMO.

I'd never watch any foreign live-action film in English (and they're always shown on TV subbed over here anyway), so why should anime be any different?
