I forget where I heard it but they were supposed to make gta3 for dreamcast and never did I was wandering if anyone here had the unfinished game or if they finished it but never released It. I used the search button but found nothing.
I think you are mistaking GTA3 with a homebrewn effort to 'convert' GTA3 from PlayStation to Dreamcast. http://www.cuser101.karoo.net/gtafreedc.html I remember seeing some footage a few years back, but I think the project's now dead.
There is GTA2 for dreamcast, though. That should satisfy your... um, craving. Don't know if it's any good, but it's more similar to the original. And of course, that GTA3 for the NES.
Grand Theft Auto III has never officially been confirmed for the Dreamcast, though a few years back there was a homebrew effort to create a game in the GTA mould. Apart from a few rough-looking screenshots, this so called "GTA FREE" disappeared without a trace. Some believe it was a legitimate project that collapsed due to legal pressure from Rockstar/Take2, while others claim that the whole thing was nothing more than an elaborate hoax. Either way, the end result would almost certainly have disappointed in comparison to anything from the original developers. We all know that Rockstar is highly secretive when it comes to protecting its controversial series, so perhaps there might never be any closure to this particular case. If anything, GTA III more than likely ended up a PlayStation 2 console exclusive because of the familar story - one thing you must have learned by now is that Sony loves to keep the best games for its own hardware, and that this specific game's non-appearance on the DC was probably nothing to do with any hardware limitations...
Ok thanks guys right now i dont have a dc but im gonna get one soon so i figured I should see if gta3 was anywhere for it.
There is one Rockstar title I would like to know more for the Draemcast: Max Payne. It was cancelled, but I wonder how far in development it was? http://dreamcast.ign.com/articles/132/132175p1.html
heh, so max pain was for dc? lol.... i must admit that the ps2 version looks better, but this must be an early build...
Id hope the PS2 version was better, seeing how it was finished and all. But id be interested in the DC version still, looks pretty cool.
Development on Max Payne started very early in fact, I think somewhere around 1996-1997. In fact there's a small ad for the game in the "Final Reality" benchmark, which is from around that time.
The Dreamcast shots I've seen are from early PC builds. I'm sure it would've looked fairly close to the PS2 version. Edit: (Max Payne)
