Does anyone know anything about the PS2 HDD DTL-H10030

The DTL-H10030 PS2 HDD was the model designed for use with the DTL-H10000 series of debugging station. It uses the PCMCIA III slot at the back of the console to connect to. Its exterior looks are the same as the retail HDD for the first three Jap PS2 consoles. What I am interested to know is if anyone on ASSEMbler has one of these units and knows how they differ from a retail one, if they differ at all.

Here is a pic of an actual unit marked 3 (the pic is from one of lingjr's auctions):

And here is a pic of a retail unit attached to a PS2 (SCPH-10210) :

I know this may sound like a noobish question but what does "DTL" actually mean. I was guessing that it meant Development Team Licence, can anyone confirm this?[IMG]

Apologies for resurrecting a pretty old thread, but it seemed more appropriate than starting a similar new one...

Anyway, I was wondering the same thing - whether there is any real difference between these & the retail external HDD kit for SCPH-10000/15000/18000 PS2's? I recently got my hands on one of these DTL-H-10030 HDD kits & as far as I can tell they do appear identical - however, I've not yet been able to get my PS2 to see the drive/pc-card. I'm figuring that I may need to get a copy of the Broadband Navigator disc that originally came with the retail HDD, but I wonder if anyone here already did the same, or ever did find out more about any differences between the DTL & retail HDD kits?

I always thought it meant Development TooL.
    The H I think is for hardware ( i.e. DTL-H2000 ), while software is DTL-S*

No idea what SCPH stands for, but they hyphernate after the H i.e ( SCPH-1000).

I always thought SCPH meant Sony Consumer Products Hardware, and DTL meant Developer Tool License.

IMHO if you would like to do development with idea that your title will support retail HDD , first of all dev. team should have some HDD in addion to the TOOL,

second point - your TOOL will get one additional network connector that you can use for online support titles

BBNav is also a subject here:
"PSBBN checks the firmware of the HDD and Sony customizes the firmware of their HDD units"

    :)

Yea, my PS2 doesnt pick up the HDD either. Ive got the BBNav disk on the way from Japan though, so that should hopefully fix that.

Yes, please do. I've got PSBBN 0.2 & HDD utility 1.0 coming, along with another external HDD unit, but it's gonna be a while before they arrive.

BTW, when you connected & powered everything up, did your HDD even spin up/any LEDs come on? Mine doesn't so far (not even when connected to a TOOL, but I'm still figuring out how to access the PS2 side of that), so I'm wondering if it might be broken.

DevL, have you seen any evidence that the retail HDD may have different firmware to the one intended for the TOOL? Nothing would suprise me, but that seems a bit unneccesary...

The external hdd won't power up if there isn't a software trying to access it(psbbn or hdd utility disc).
    So what have you tried?

Ah, thanks for confirming that. I was at least expecting the power light to come on & perhaps for the drive to momentarily spin up at boot, like the internal drives do. Once the psbnn & hdd utility discs arrive, I'll try again.

Exactly like you, I assumed some form of life would be acknowledged, such as the power light and I immediately thought the PSU was burnt out, especially as I can hear a tiny, faint whisper of a tone in it. I imagined it was an alarm, which you sometimes find in better PSU. Press your ear to the PSU and if you hear a tone, let me know lol - otherwise mine might STILL be a dead PSU lol.

this intrests me but sounds like a faulty power brick/supply...
have ye tested the psu to see if its got any output only way to confirm power issues is by consulting a cheap multi-meter if it registers0.0 your psu/brick is faulty/dead
