On the Wii http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpIT1ELbfeU Fresh ideas eh? It does look pretty good though!
It's developed by Retro Studios, right? They made the Metroid Prime Trilogy. If their previous projects are any indication then I'd say it'll probably be pretty good. Plus, it's cool to see a proper sequel to the original Donkey Kong Country games getting made.
Nintendo? Fresh ideas? They just keep recycling the same tired franchises, and somehow they're getting away with it (probably because some of them, like the Mario Galaxy games, are excellent). And now they're selling a VC game for $30... But, uh, this actually reminds me more of Jungle Beat on Gamecube, which I actually liked, than the original DKC games. And it looks pretty good too, even though the motion controls feel pointless like in almost every game they've been put in.
oh blah blah. If it was too different, people would bitch. If doesn't change "Completely" Or doesn't do anything new by "peoples standards" People bitch. So I could care less as long as it's good
nintendo games are good games in their own right most of the time. The fact that they bare the nintendo mythos just enhances their appeal to audiences - people know what to expect, a high quality product, be it Mario, Zelda or whatever else.
PocketStation. The Virtualboy was more a dabbling of new technology for kicks and was likely a mistake to think it had commercial value beyond maybe some specialized projects. The fact Nintendo beats the same drum time and time again does several things: ensures I will have more Metroid, Mario, and Pokemon to play, ensures that Nintendo will never make another good game that won't get sequelized again, and ensure I never buy a Nintendo product for anything but Nintendo games. Buy a Mac, you buy an iPod and soon enough you have the Apple enema kit.
Dying to know as well. My Wii has been collecting so much dust its insane. Must have been a year since I used it if not more.
Yeah, this is a true retro game, love the sweet graphics and all but the controls are a bit annoying, waggle the wii mote whenever you want to ground stomp and so all the time. Sad thing they didnt add a classic controller layout for the controls. Other than that, great game.
Yeah, I got it last night and played up through the first boss. Very clever updating of the 2D formula from the SNES games, but the controls really ruin gameplay and take you out of the game. I'll still see it through to the end though.
Note: I haven't read any of the above comments..yet. Just finished playing about 10-12 levels and I can firmly say that the levels are better made than the original trilogy. The nostalgia cocaine works in strong doses when familiar colours and remixed music hits the set, it's amazing, but wait, where the fuck are my water levels? It's like DK forgot how to swim these past 15years.
third world so far, liking the game very much but agree that controls could've been better. i hate shaking the wiimote, that should've been optional
The controls are sufficient but i d prefer to make use of my Classic Controller (non-pro) for that semi genuine DK feeling..Shaking and pressing A to jump (Rambi!) was a pain in the ass at some points that platforms collapsed.
I just bought it off amazon (along with kirby's epic yarn), cannot wait to try them out. It's a truly amazing year for Nintendo Wii. DKCR, Kirby, Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid M - franchises that you don't see often updated within a single year.
