IMO, they shouldn't even bother with videogame-to-movie attempts. Not one has been any good...that includes Tomb Raider and the Resident Evil films.
so basically, (and im just going by the pictures here) you have a tight, close shot corridor guns marine ablazing alien infestation movie on the books............fantastic.......(that was sarcasam by the way)....... From what ive read as well they have done away with the whole, interdimensional demons hell thing and replaced it with genticaly created mutations!!! Hell (no pun), that dosent even deserve the doom title. Now my idea for a doom movie..... We start off ala aliens, humans have colanised mars, things are sweet, projects are going a ok. One of there latest attempts at bridging the long flight travel between earth and mars is going as planned, the "jump gate" starts as normal, the first ship goes through, communications take place with the jump gate at the other end (earth) where they are waiting for the ship to come through, but it dosent. The Jump gate shuts down along with the ship trapped in it.......the project is stopped, the jump gate is put in close orbit to mars for "safe keeping", 9 months pass....... The ship which went through the jump gate returns and crashes on mars, it is drasticaly beaten up and the pilot is barely alive, they take him in, try to find out whats gone wrong and where he has been for 9 months. One night while he is being cared for he gets, or seems to be "possesed", killing the guards watching him, killing the scientists, making his way upto the research labs, logs onto the computers, pulls up the files on the Jump gate, reactivates the gate still in low orbit, sends a signal, and opens the gate...the man is shot as he refuses to shut down the gate, but it is too late, its open on unknown corrindates and SOMETHING is travelling very fast to mars via the gate...... An attack ship is sent to intercept the incoming ship at the mouth of the gate, but its too late, the thing that leaves the gate is a giant living bio-ship that quickly and easily destroys the intercepting ship, heads for Mars, lands....and all hell breaks loose.... zombies, demons and giant beasts set seige to mars, as the marines and civilians try to fight off the hoardes, the demons make quick progress through the base, taking lives, reading computer data until they finaly learn Earths location, where the demons then try to reprogram the gate to make one final jump to Earth, but the humans know if that happens, it will be hell on earth, and they have to do everything in their power to prevent it, even if it means the destruction of the colany on mars........... Yes you can prob spot the movies I have used for reference there, Aliens and event horizen being 2 examples, but when it comes to doom, you need giant battles, over the top action and cheesy one liners, I say start an on-line fund and get money for Arnie to do it, no one, AND I MEAN NO ONE, delivers one liners like that man........oh well, I'll shut up now....
and you'll see it all the time in this film, 'cause he's incarnating that amblematic guy face that tells you how you are (and your health)
oh jesus so we're destined for some pg-13 shitfest along the lines of House of the dead" the current holder of worst video game movie ever.
thast the problem, do you make a movie for the fanboys of the games and bring in less profit then it took to make the movie (and sometimes create a cult movie int he process) or do you strip all the good stuff, place in some so-so wrestler/actors, do away with decent script and make a movie for the mindless massess who will see this and thus bring in a much bigger profit?? You cant win...... But in some game to movie ideas, they will suck fromt he start becasue the game is already close to a movie, some ideas that people have thrown about what they think would make good movies: Metal gear solid - good movie - no - why? MGS (and the early titles) already borrow heavyly from movies, snake = snkae pliskin/kyle resse (check out the early MSX box art for my reason) see the head gun and head set, replica of kyle resse from terminator.... That and the plot and seetings are typical rambo/delta force scenario....also Kojima has it spot on with his cut scenes so any movie version trying to replicate them would suck (just my opinion) Resident Evil - movie - no- why? Borrows from pretty much every B-Movie made int he past 50 years..... Im not really getting my point across, but video games - movies rearly work.......with house of the dead being a paticular fantastic example of how not to do it.......
Metal gear movie=bad. Why? The game is a movie that you play, basically. Most of them are like that... Maybe a game with pretty much no story would maybe make a good movie.
the point I was trying to get across (badly) with metal gear is that its already so close to being a film, scenario, script, music (and to a degree the charatcer acting) that what woul dbe left to make intoa movie?? I mean Hideo Kojima already admits in interviews that his games are based to a degree on cinema (current and old), take Snatcher, you cant spot three massive movies in there, The terminator (bioroids), invasion of the body snatchers (scenario) and also BladeRunner (future city setting/character design/craft design)......And if MG was made into a movie how could you justify it as nothing more then a shallow cash in on an otherwise excellent francise...... I guess my point wasnt put across very well
"punk".....why you little........dont make me come down there.........ah forget it, im too old for this shit..... But I guess I should have read yout previous post better, I thought you were arguing over the fact it would make a good movie.....when in fact, well you know, I cant really be bothered.......in short......back on topic doom movie will suck.......
MGS would be a bad movie simply because it's on a bigger level than a film. MGS is bassicly a movie, but ''improved'', like a next-gen of films. you just can't squeeze 10 hours of story into a movie and you'll more than certainly loose all that interaction that games have. I think video games are definitivly an art, just like movies are, and this art push the limits where no other media can, and doing those kind of revolutionnary games on a less permitive format would be a step backward. the only thing missing to video games is the human touch of a movie, but actors are more and more replaced by digitalized characters anyway.
If the ROCK is in it then you know it's shit. To me it looks as if it's going to be a cheap arse Aliens rip off. Just look atthe pictures and tell me you don't agree. As for the House of the Dead film, the guy who directed that needs his balls cut off. That was soooooooooooooo bad that I didn't bother watching it until the end. Yakumo
