oh yeah, what was the story behind this again?:smt043 if i remember right, sony said that they needed to protect the ps2 stocks 'cause terrorists could stole them and use them as missile launcher, right? that's what i remember anyway :smt043 i can fire missiles with this! and watch dvds also! beware!!:smt042
I love my MD player, too, but like Taemos', mine's on the way out. It still does playback fine, but when recording I get occasional blank spaces in there. I've tried cleaning the heads/lenses/whatever they are and it still does it. I've had a number of friends whose MD players kicked off, too, so I'm a bit worried. Like you, though, I've got little more than disgust for the whole iPod scene. I bought an Archos AV320 about a year ago. For a variety of reasons like the ability to record audio and video directly, it seemed like the best choice for me at the time, but now I'm probably gonna be selling it. One of the main reasons I bought the thing was the homebrew community that was picking up steam at the time, but all that activity was just a blip apparently. They made some nice stuff (though it was mostly games, not core features like MOD or OGG playback or more video codecs) but now there's been no homebrew activity on the thing at all for like 6 months, unlike the Archos Jukebox systems that have a thriving community with an incredible homebrew OS for their system. Plus, I've bought a laptop in the interim which negates some of my other reasons for initially getting the AV320. I'd go for a Hi-MD player in a second especially now that direct MP3 playback is an option, too, but only if I didn't have to use Sony's fucked up Soundstage software, though. There was some people working on their own interface software, but they up'n disappeared. Hopefully the GPX2 will meet my needs now. ...word is bondage...
Don't get me started on that awful piece of festering shit. That software is so horribly made that even members the Windows ME development team look at it and say, "Man, now THAT is some broken code. That's.... that's just WRONG!" Although it takes more time, I use Nero to burn an audio CD image worth of MP3s, mount it in Daemon Tools, and then use the much kinder Simple MD Burner software to get the tracks on the MD. I usually have to do this about 4 times to fill up a disc, but it's worth the time as I never have to worry about the software crapping out in the middle of an upload, refusing to convert certain MP3 files, or any of the other garbage that plagues SonicStage.
:smt043 :smt043 :smt043 That's so brilliant it should be someone's signature :smt042 And I don't see why anyone "should" own an Ipod, even though it's a nifty and well-built thing. I'm happy with my 25e MP3 player that has internal memory + SD and an FM tuner, and I'm not forced to use some crappy piece of software.
