Every day I loss another reason to not buy an iPod :smt042

From the nuts at ipodlinux, a Port of the original Doom for the iPod, in full color

It runs on ipodlinux, the framerate its kinda low, what makes it barely playable. They say they are working on that.

Anyways, maybe we`ll see some emus when apple releases the Xscale ipods :happyhap:

I'm looking to sell mine. Very cool device, but I use it very little.

Once the framerates get better, I may check it out. Can't beat having Doom on the go. :smt023

Just out of curiosity, anyone recall what the framerate is currently? I couldn't find it in the link above, and the ipodlinux website isn't working (for me at least).

    Which generation is it? :D

And gaming247, the site its apparently offline, but as i said, its moves as slow as frozeen jelly, so its barely playable.

Hell yea, how much you want for it? :D

  9. Ah, so Doom is only playable on the iPod Photos, or is there a greyscale mode for the older ones, anyways? Doom on any portable gadget is a fairly compelling reason to make a purchase, but it's still not enough to get me to buy one of those overpriced pieces of hype. I'll stick with the kickass Mindisc player, for now.

Agreed on the "hype" part, but my Minidisc player kicked the bucket, and I never was able to get it up and going again :(. I have to start looking toward an MP3 player purchase.

  11. That's the bad thing about MD players - once they start to go, the parts are so small inside that it would be tough to do any sort of DIY repairs. I've had mine going on 5 years now with no problems, though. It's kindof one of those, "As long as it works fine, I'm not spending money on a new one" mentalities. Though if it were to go, I might be convinced to pick up an iPod shuffle. Those are a little bit more balanced in the Price<->Value department, plus they're not such an irritating status symbol.

"See my ugly white earphones? That's right - I had $250 to blow on an iPod."

I've always been more annoyed with their size. Granted, they aren't that big, but I would notice it in my pocket. I'd rather have a small flash-based MP3 player.

I do love it how when one of my friends say "I want an iPod", I ask "Why?" That always confuses them. "Well, it's neat!" is usually the response I get.

As for Doom on the iPod, I think I'd rather carry around a PocketPC and play on one of those. It is neat, though :).

Your friend should thank Goebbels for that. He was the fat fuck who invented the "necesity of posession".

The point is that if you constantly tell a person about anything (an object, ideology,etc....) he will end up doing anything he can to get it, even if he cant figure out what it does :smt043

Sorry to go OT (even more), but Oakley Thump > iPod. Mp3 in your shades. Ahh yeah.

Although the iPod is a damn nifty bit of kit.

i don't want to wear glasses to listen music, i want to listen music (point at the line)

i don't wear glasees in life, so why would i start now?

as for doom on ipod, that's great, but where are the fps numbers?

EDIT: oh, because that's not only glasses, it's shades! great, i'm going to wear shades in my house to play mp3s! (don't worry if the last sentence sounded weird)

It's cool to have Doom on your iPod, but it's more proof of concept then anything else--seriously, how the hell do you go about controlling that comfortably?

  18. Well, 99% of all Doom ports to any platform are "Gee whiz! My _____ can run Doom!" anyways, and less about actual playability. Sortof like ScummVM on every goddamned platform in existance, except that's playable 99% of the time.

Besides, how many times do we need to play Doom? Oh, it plays Doom, so does my Gameboy and my 10 year old PC, it's not like it lauches missiles or something.
