Might be cool to retrofit the internals in a Micro-ATX case

Cross Products used a lot of off the shelf parts. The Katana chassis is mass produced, albeit rare. You should be able to get hold of a replacement fascia if you look hard enough, but you will lose the Sega and Dreamcast logos.

I saw the Katana sell for £620 and I was a little WTF by it, but yeah whatever is on the HDD could be awesome and worth a look. Some of them are selling for less than that though, as most do.

I was interested in the Dreamcast Debug Unit, but I didn't bid too highly as I wanted to drop most of my funds on the HKT-03 Sound box. The debugger went for a reasonable £190 or so, but the sound box went for a slightly nuts £310!

BTW don't forget the GD writer was listed as faulty and went for £67. For the sake of a fuse, repaired join or replacement PSU, it went for a bargain price. I was bidding on it too, but I couldn't respond quickly enough to snipers :(

Also, withholding feedback on such items is a smart move. Would you want the purchase to be publicly trackable to you for possible repossession?

Wouldn't mind a Katana kit one of these days but ~$1kUSD is insane. I remember when they went for $200-300. It's a bloody PC with a Dreamcast attached!

Thanks for the advice, I'm not sure I'd want to lose the logos though. I think that's the main talking point when someone comes round and asks 'what the hell is that Dreamcast thingy' haha!

I know right! That guy has sold 5 of these now (if they aren't actually all the same one considering he hasn't had any feedback from buyers about them) maybe a UK studio like Bizarre Creations? Rage?

What was that Sound Box? I've never seen or heard about one before now

I too was after that, was a little more than I wanted to pay after shelling out £89 customs for the .Dev

True, but he has feedback for a Nintendo debugger by the look of it, something seems a little strange with how much kit he has

    Sorry for that. ;)
I will let you know what was on HD of one of those DEV units (and what is wrong with that faulty GD-R drive... aaand what is on green xbox debug kit hard disk) when my friend from UK send this stuff to me to Poland.

    Small part of my collection...

Not to worry, not like I was desperate for them as I'm on my third Katana and second GD Writer ;) I fancied another writer to park on top of a Set 5.16 or GD Duplicator should I get lucky in future, but some you win, some you lose :)

But yeah you paid a good whack for the Katana, which is sort of offset by your amazing deal for the GD writer. Hopefully the power issue will be a cheap and simple fix and the HDD content will be weird and wonderful :)

If you look at their terms....
... chances are high that the 620 £ devkit was relisted, since the highest bid was from a guy with 0 feedback.

I think he knows that demand goes up when you relist, anyone bidding before would up their bid, hence why all the others after the first ended higher and higher

I don't know for the first one, but except for the 620£ one, prices seem pretty stable:
    341 £ -> 250.52 £ -> 620 £ (-> relisted ?) -> 343.33 £

(the same zero-poster increased the price of the soundbox too btw)

How do you know that? I was under the assumption buyers couldn't see other buyers activity?

In the bid history of both auctions, you can see this:
    q***o[IMG]( 0 )

Not a definitive proof that it's the same user in the two auctions, but chances are very high it is...

So are you claiming on the smashed Katana, then? Who was it shipped with? I'd never use Myhermes or Yodel for anything valuable, they're really terrible!

Hard drive recovery should be no worries even if the Katana doesn't work. Give me a shout if you need a hand.

Incidentally, don't assume every dev kit is going to include unreleased games. There are quite a few out there that didn't contain anything of great moment.

True, I have two development kits. One came without a harddrive and the other was totally blank.

Do you ever plan to use your Dev Kits, or are they just for your collection? You have more or less everything now, don't you?! :friendly_wink:

OT: Dude, your vids rock. Keep up the good work!

I rang Parcel Force 5 minutes after it was delivered and they told me due to it coming from the USA that a contract(?) was signed with UPS for delivery of the item, thus the seller has to make the claim, however I emailed the seller but I'm not sure whats happening. I'm now claiming through PayPal for a partial refund to pay for the £90 customs and materials to repair the facia.

Oh certainly, I know most Katana's don't have anything noteworthy. He has sold a few of them though so there's a good chance a HDD recovery of some kind would unearth something cool on one of them (I'd hope, anyway!)

    Thanks.

They're collector's pieces. You can't really use those things these days.

Okay let me rephrase, you can't really make games with those things legally these days.
