Seems I've got a new and interesting problem. Dreamshell erases the chip just fine but then complains of FF vs e3? And apparently it can't recognize the "manufacturer/device". I've checked the connections on each pin and they appear solid. Maybe write enable isn't holding itself down properly?

    EDIT:
....apparently in my haste I forgot to even solder in a wire for write enable. At least the internal VGA and chip are working properly now. Time for the SD card internalization...

The first time around I unknowingly burnt 4.0 beta 3 which I guess doesn't support the "bios" command. 4.0 beta 4 worked like a charm and everything is just peachy with that Dreamcast.

Though the second one I'm trying to write out a BIOS to is failing about half-way through the writing process. Some of the pins on one half didn't want to accept a solder bridge between the two chips so I substituted some very fine wire (much higher than 30AWG I'm sure) for 4-5 pins. I'm guessing it's enough to pass continuity tests with my equipment but not enough copper for the chip to be written to.

    Indeed it was.

Turns out DC #2's problem was that I didn't connect A19 at all. Good thing I'm not an air traffic controller eh?

speaking of bios i'd like to get a dreamcast with HKT0120_v1.011.01 bios , except the pal dev bios have been modified to play regular dreamcast game not just gd-roms. thats would be neat
a pal dreamcast with HKT0120_v1.011.01 bios , that or a treamcast with HKT0120_v1.011.01 bios

By regular Dreamcast games do you mean Mil-CD compatible games?

    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32879

I'm selling this one that has more or less what you want. You can't use the HKT0120_v1.011.01 as-is dumped from the Katana devkit, though Link83's BIOS has the Katana boot-up animation implanted into a retail BIOS which is what I think most people in this thread are after.

You know a console got pirated to hell when people dub bootlegs "regular games" and speak of originals as if it was weird stuff ...

In the end it's a sign it's an alive console!

Suppose that explains why I was having difficulty understanding what was being asked.

Just how many Mil-CD releases were there for the Dreamcast in the first place? 10? Official releases that is.

Originals ftw, otherwise there is no need for a region free BIOS... :crying:

I was close! Though without the mil-cd bootability being there we'd have to find an entirely different way to boot homebrew. I'd doubt that the homebrew scene would have been as big without it either. Cest la vie.

    @jinn
I've never noticed that hole until I saw your pictures. That is a great spot for the switch and a very nice wiring job. Until I discovered how useful tweezers were I wasn't able to get mine looking nearly that nice. Where are you getting your power from? The information I've seen so far suggests that the chips won't play nice unless they're in a definitive high/low state.

I used the guide from dc-swat
    I'm getting 3.3v from pin 23
I have a blue wire from pin 23 to pin 1
if you look closely you will see a blue line

After re-reading the guide, I have realized I made a mistake during the install.
I forgot to lift pin 12 from original chip.
Open the system back up and decided it would be faster just to cut the trace.

APE, for the WE-PIN 9 I passed the striped wire threw the hole and solder on the bottom of the board.
The I could pull on the wire and make the wire connection to WE as short as possible without having to worry about pulling the trace from point 9

    Hi FG,

Do I need to remove the caps
    [IMG]
For the Internal SD mod or the china made SD adapter
to get high speed or it doesn't matter.

The first time I soldered in the wires for the internal mod it worked, but I had to remove it and haven't gotten it to work since.

Though I think that is because I was tired and tried to wire 3 and 8 on the DC side to the two pins the needed to be grounded on the SD card side...

    Help

Okay so I want to get the Dev Boot on a retail Dreamcast while keeping the ability to play back up's. I would like it more if I could get the NTSC swirl.

Could someone please guide me through the process of doing this?
