I might be wrong but I guess they where only bundle in japan with the R7 Dreamcast edition. So it's unlikely to see one by itself unless you got the whole bundle.

They sold them separately. The packaging has a black circle sticker to indicate its color: link

No, they came in the box according to other sources. It was included as part of the bundle...Which is good. I have seen R7's go for $200-300 NiB.

Where is the source for that? The picture here of the all-black console is the closest indication I've seen that the BBA was bundled with a console. I thought it was available through the Direct site.

On a newer Dreamcast do i need to bend pin 23 (Vcc) on the flashchip?

In this guide it looks like he soldered it to the Vcc pin on the original bios:

It sure looks like only pin 1, 12 and 44 are bend in that picture :)

You don't need to do anything with Vcc with your DC, Connect the Vcc of flash direcly to the Vcc of bios just like all others pin.

The schematic just point you a point where you can take Vcc (3.3v) but your are free to take it from anywhere.

I can't do that on my DC because it's the old version with 5v BIOS and the flash is 3.3v only.

    Hi all,
I am glad to see some people running these modified Dreamcast BIOS on real hardware :)

As silly as it might seem, my original reasons for not releasing a public link to my version of the BIOS was that I was concerned about possible repercussions since it was based on copyrighted Sega material and I thought Sega might not be too happy it, or that the admins here might not like a direct link to such a file, so I thought the 'safest' way to release it would be through PM only. I also thought after I had sent it to a few new 'zero post' members that it would probably spread online any way, but that didnt seem to happen!

A while after I made my BIOS the Russian hackers mentioned in the first post publically released a different modified BIOS, so I now realise that I was probably worrying about nothing  (I doubt Sega really care at this point!) I have just checked with a forum moderator and got the go ahead to post a public download link, so if anybody is interested here is a link to download my modified BIOS:-

Just select your favourite download site.

The original BIOS development/release thread is here:-
    http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20622

I hope everyone enjoys it, and please feel free to mirror/re-host as necessary  (If the link ever dies and no-one has re-hosted the file, someone please send me a PM and i'll re-upload it)

You need to make a bridge between 12v and a resistor. Maybe DreamShell don't need it I don't know.

I didn't tried that. Anyway the DC logo in orange is the way to go :p

I looked inside the files of DreamShell and there were pictures of bridging the resistor and 12 as expected. I don't want to do that :( I tried it on another motherboard and it worked fine (switching from EU to JAP) but a friend of mine had his Dreamcast fried because he didn't remove the bridge again :(

I was about to do this mod using my Resident Evil Dreamcast casing, but having to drill a hole for a switch made me go with a normal Dreamcast instead. If someone comes up with a switchless solution i'm all for using my Residente Evil DC :)

I don't care how much soldering i do in a rare console as long as it stays mint on the outside. If i should ever decide to sell it i can just swap the insides with another JAP console ;)

You don't need to drill hole for the switch.

Do the mod and leave the switch near the controller/battery pcb inside the dreamcast, put everything back together after the mod except the top case, put a tape on the CD drive door to keep it close.

Power it on, flash the bios, put the switch in the right position and reassemble the Dreamcast.

Their is no reason to use the other bios anyways.

This is exactly what I've done. I keeped the switch inside just in case I change my mind, but I could just remove it and hard wire the older bios /CE line to Vcc and the Flash chip /CE line to D501 to make this somewhat permanent.

I plan to build an extern SD card reader sometime soon. If i understand correctly i can flash the new bios to boot up DreamShell when powering on, without any CD's. Thus making homebrew loading from SD a lot smoother :)

Btw Link, I the readme you say that GD-R might work, Is this was actualy tested on real hardware since you make it?

I'm thinking of making an external SD card reader if i can find the proper cable that is. I want to mount the bios select switch on the SD card reader instead of the Dreamcast itself. Of course this requires the cable to have enough wires which it might not have, and will most likely remove all possibility of link play.

Soldering the switch to the pins of the serial port and mounting the switch on the SD card reader is no problem at all. The thing is that i would like the Dreamcast to default to the original bios when the SD card reader is not inserted. And the bios should be selectable with the SD card reader plugged in. How would i do that? I assume some kind of pullup/down resistor is needed...?

Here is an illustration made by a 4-year old:
