Most Dreamcast covers are in standard CD jewel cases, yet many of us perfer DVD cases, as they break less and fit in our DVD storage units better. However, Dreamcast DVD covers are horrible. Most people just stretch the image from the CD cover lengthways, or add huge banners\bars to the top. I, on the other hand, made a cover from scratch, partially using a Dreamcast DVD template, but scratching the North American curve design for one based on the Japanese orange corner, but with an extention so that it fits better with all other DVD cased games, such as PS2 or GC games, which advertise the system at the top of the case. It needs a lot of polishing, but I think it looks damn good (and pretty professional) so far.

Here's the result (PNG file scaled to 25%, PSD is 166MB!):

Comments, critisism or your own covers here would be great.

Looks great - maybe change the front background pic to something a nit more exciting maybe? The blurb looks a bit out of place too - maybe change the font and colour or lose the box? - See what other people think

Good work, I think the scrrenshots, foreground images and logos work well!

Yeah have a shorter, wider text box taking up the top rather than it sharing it with a screenshot. Really nice work though.

Nice work, however the text box looks very amatuer-ish and the use of the Sonic advance image on the front cover just doesn't seem right.

Great idea for people who have a cracked or broken box on a dreamcast case. It would be great if you could make a templete so people could just mess around and make there own but keeping the same style boxes.

You need the text box removed all together. The best thing to do is use plain text with a boarder. Take alook at these I made. Text looks much better when not placed in a box. (I'm one of the guys who prefears everything in CD cases)

Those are all really good. I just don't know about having the entire background be a screenshot... but that's just my opinion.

For the sonic one. Change the background color for the front cover and put a shade of blue over it so as to have Sonic and title stand out more. Just a suggestion. Otherwise it looks great.

Really nice work!! My laptop is in for repair, but when it get's back I'd love to take a stab at this (for a different game of course). Any chance on you posting the PSD file of just the template (barcode area, spine, and orange bar on front) so that I (and anyone else who's interested) can keep a standard going?

On a side note, I really like using (parenthesis). :)

Heh, i also wouldn't mind that DC template

BTW: there's a great site called vg-boxart which has countless amounts of fictional covers for every system, you should post some of your stuff there too!

I also prefer them in regular CD cases ^^
But the last one you made looks really tight, keep up the good work!

Yakumo, do you have more covers made by you? Do you have them posted somewhere? I looked at your site but I didnt find any

My covers should be posted over at http://www.dreamcast-scene.com sometime in the future I believe. I've also made a Half Life, Propeller Arena and a few other covers in Japanese CD size. My next one to make is a CD version for Karasu.

Eww, I can't stand CD cases, all they seem to do is get cracked or get lost among my music collection, while my game\DVD unit sits empty. But hey, to each his own.

^ Theres the template I made. It's arranged a bit messily (layers are slightly jumbled) but you guys are smart enough to sort it out. Enjoy and lets see some awesome covers!

Nice work, I've been making DVD covers (based on Wii with white cases) for my DC games... this is Berserk (pal ones have blue swirl, NTSC has orange) doing 30+ games, may upload them if people want them when finished... give me feedback, back page layout needs some adjustment otherwise I'm happy!
