Upscaling them won't, no. But im talking about them actualy running in high-def resolutions. Chankast does it (though it still needs a good deal of work to be a good alternative to the original system), so don't think it impossible. Also, progressive scan requires a VGA box, which unless you have a a conversion box that lets you change RGB into Y/Yr/Yb means you'll probably be playing it on a computer monitor (average of 15-21 inches) as opposed to a TV (average of 27-32 inchs).
At first I thought this news was an near impossibility, but then I remembered that GameTap currently has a few Dreamcast games on their service already... so it's not that far fetched afterall. And I agree with Tachikoma, Chu Chu Rocket would be worth it alone.
wow, All HDTV's over here have either VGA or DVI. Even my parents one, which is about 2 and a half years old and isnt officially "HD Ready" (supports up to 1080i but not HDCP)...
Well actualy all the DC games on Gametap were ported to the PC, theirs no emulation going on. Thats not to say Im disagreing with you about it being possible for 360 to emulate the DC, but that particular example doesn't really work. Yea, unfortuanatly the input types (outside of component) havn't been standardized for HDTVs here yet, so when I bought mine I went for the cheapest one I could find of satisfying quality as opposed to something expensive I felt I would end up replacing shortly their after.
I'm not positive, but I thought I read somewhere that MS stipulates Xbox Live Arcade games be no bigger than 50mb, for the exact reason being they don't want people to quickly fill up thier HDD's. Of course, they could change that guidline and I wouldn't mind ....
When you're looking on the low end you'll see all sorts of interesting things including "HDTVs" that only support 1080i (no 720p!) and "HDTVs" that are in a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:9. Most HDTVs sold in the States support VGA/DVI and Component, with the newer models all sporting HDMI, but once you get into the budget range no feature is a guarantee. Wow. I'll have to let the Gametap guys know that they "didn't really work on a DC emulator" the next time I see them. -hl718
I didnt know gametap even featured Dreamcast games, I just checked their website and it says the following: Hydro Thunder™ - Racing - Dreamcast - Midway Home Entertainment, Inc. Mr. Driller® - Puzzle - Dreamcast - Namco Limited Toy Commander™ - Action - Dreamcast - SEGA Corporation sweet
