I'm taking a shot here so if you think this idea is just stupid tell me and I'll shut up.

From all the consoles the one I know less is the Dreamcast. I own it but have played just a few titles.
This is one of those systems which I would like to know more and to feel more intimate like I did 2011-2012 with the Neo Geo.

How the idea started: I love spending my time playing some games with my girlfriend but as soon as she leaves to her house I'm just moving along so many games without sticking to any.
To be honest, I don't actually enjoy playing the games alone anymore. Not even watching a movie alone.
I want to have someone to talk to. To discuss the game. (maybe I have too much free time)

So what's the idea: the idea is, name a game, up to 5 per month and I'll buy it. Since we are in the begging of june this could count as the starting month.
I would like to play and discuss about something to do during the game play and so on.
I guess under those circumstances fighting games will loose a lot but that's not entirely true. Strategies and history behind the game would be awesome to talk about.

This is just an idea and in my mind it could become a great gaming experience.

PS: I really hope I'm not embarrassing myself with this since most of people hare are hardcore deep knowledge engineering gaming experts.

I think a fun way for you to check out games and explore the dreamcast, could be to check out some of the dreamcast exclusive games that never saw ports to any other consoles or PC. I was just working on a list of many of these games yesterday and today over at dreamcast-talk. Here is a link to the thread, the game list is in the 3rd post on the 1st page and is broken down into genres.

    http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4710

A word of caution though, some of these exclusives are total duds - and many of the non-exclusive games that were ported to other consoles were ported because they were excellent AAA titles that really showcased the DC at its best.

Also, you'll probably find a lot of people to school you on dreamcast and talk in depth about specific DC games over on this same forum - dreamcast-talk ;) I asked for impressions on the Ecco the Dolphin game for DC a little while ago, and it quickly turned into a 5 page topic http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4654

Yeah, I've bet there was some other forum that would be 100% dedicated to the dreamcast. The thing is that sometimes you get so much love for a forum that you forget about the others.

I'll sign up there, maybe I'm posting in the wrong place.

About the list, nice work! This will be an awesome adventure :))

The cover of that game D2 reminds me of Parasite Eve.
What do you think? Should I start with D2 and Shenmue?

BTW: I see tons of people selling the japenese copy of D2 and Shenmue here in Brazil and the US version is way more expensive.
I have no idea why BR people would have the japanese game ONLY if there was any way to get english text on the game.
Is that the case? The Dreamcast is like the NeoGeo? You can get the game in any region and have english voice/subtitles?

I'm very sure that the Japanese version of D2 and Shenmue are Japanese language only.

Live stream it. There's tons of people on /v/ that do live streams of them playing games so that they can get some help from the people tuning in. I'd be sure to watch/participate in a couple streams if you do them.

I also wouldn't say you're posting at the wrong site- it just that there's going to be a better audience possibly interested in this over at DC forums, like the one mentioned above.

    live stream?
You mean: get a video capture usb card, get a headset joining "/v/" and talk to the people while you play?
    What's /v/ ?

Well, the JPN version of Shenmue (at least non-limited) is dirt-cheap. You can buy it for $1 sealed in Japan, so many people import it as a cheap obscure collectible.

Of course not. The Neo Geo had a library of arcade games of which almost all were distributed in both the West and Japan. Dreamcast is a console.....

Shenmue was originally released in Japan with Japanese audio/text. For Shenmue 1 US/PAL, they translated the entire game into English (dubbing & text) - there was only English text, even for the releases in France/Germany/Italy (usually those countries received French/German/Italian language options for most games).

Shenmue 2 was only released in PAL territory but featured the original Japanese audio (which is nice, cause the Shenmue 1's English is really horrible voice acting) - text, however, was available in all sorts of languages. I only remember German cause that's what I used, but I think Spanish, French and Italian were also selectable as well as English of course.

So, that's my point, why would people buy a japanese game if they can't read or play it?

I think Shenmue and D2 heavily depend on text to follow the story, so people would need to be able to read.

Video gaming chat, although it's almost always off topic. And yes, live streaming is either when you cam it, or if you grab a capture card and stream it that way. Either way works just as well.

Best site ever. I don't know if it supports voice from other people (but people can hear you) but I know it supports text. I also don't know if it's free, but I would assume so.

I got to buy some capture device. I have no way to pass my gaming to my computer.
It would be an interesting idea.

Dreamcast is still my fav "modern" console, gaming in it's heyday ROCKED ! A great console to show off to friends (at the time) and I have nothing but good memories about it, heck I used it once to check the web for a solution to fix the PC when it went down :wink-new:

Yeah, I was interested in Shenmue and D2 to start but both games are so expensive in the US format.

Which one do I choose to start my collection?

Shenmue is the bigger classic and if you happen to be interested in Japanese life/culture, you have to play Shenmue.

Just to let you guys know I'm working out a deal with an US seller for a lot of games for the DC. I think this will be the start of my attempt to collect every US released game for the DC.

Shenmue is an awesome game - definitely my favorite DC game, and one of my all-time favorite games period. It's a game I think everyone should play. Just be prepared for terrible voice acting.

D2 is fun but it's an "out there" title.

I have always been fond of the sonic adventures and I'm told that RE:code veronica is best on the dreamcast but I'm guessing that's a matter of opinion, sword of the berserk is pretty good, grandia 2, skies of arcadia, excellent RPGs, Wacky races and looney tunes space race are pretty good mario kart clones, evil twin (PAL only I think) and super magnetic neo are good platformers, spider-man, legacy of kain, shadowman, etc etc etc, I could probably go on for quite a while.
