I just got back from New York, I am glowing red and I have feet blisters from the 20 miles of walking around the city I did over the last 3 days (Yes subways were used) Anyways I HAD to stop by Video Games New York Near NYU and I picked up 3 Dreamcast indies I've been meaning to pick up. Redux, Gunlord and Strumwind.

There's always talk about what killed Sega, Favorite games for it, What killed Sega, The false proclamation that the Dreamcast is he best system ever made. But there isn't much talk about how good the Homebrew and Indie scene for it is. Before Sony embraced indies, Before XNA on 360, Before Android and Ouya there was the Dreamcast probably the first platform people really let loose with Homebrew and indies so add that to it's many innovations.

I'm enjoying what I'm playing now, Strumwind is good but nothing like what I was expecting. I think it's a game that raises the bar for Dreamcast games moving forward and since homebrew and indies want to make games for it this is something that has a future, But what is that future?

If Dreamcast indies are going to be 2D games that involve shooting things, I don't think the market is going to rise above a niche.

Aren't most indies a Niche though?

I'm enjoying what I'm playing though. AND MAYBE MAYBE I might have put the idea to do a Mega Man Clone inside the head of half of NG Dev team....

I'm not sure the DC indie market can ever rise above a niche. Unless someone starts making more Dreamcasts, the market can't ever be above 10 million (about what the PS4 will be by the end of their first year, at the lower prediction), assuming every Dreamcast is owned by a different person (which isn't true) and that every one is still in working condition (likely not true).

I think the Dreamcast indie market can survive as a small niche, hopefully it can diversify. And, there's some interesting games in development for it right now too.

This statement (phrase?) is false. By which I mean, the Dreamcast is indeed the best system ever made.

I agree in a way, its nice to see new things being released for the DC even in 2014 but i have never really been a shmup fan so its kind of hard for me to get excited over them, although piers solar hd looks interesting

can't say i cared about 'indie' relzes..
1, too much talk, not enough GOODS!
2, overhyped and overpriced...for the most part.
3, FANBOYS! (it's the games i like, not the name)
    ...
that said, gunlord was the dogs bollocks, been trying to find the SNK-AES dump, got the NRG torrent (at UG) for the DC cdi, runs great written to disk, shame we're still on those...:(
    couldn't locate a retail relz.
    ...
if devs from rainbow arts are paying attention, you got a good legal case here, NOT! :witless:
damn top turrican ripoff, thanks for the share! (@ NRG)
    ...
i willfully ignore hype/upcoming relzes, been too many...
and geistforce i REALLY wanted, til some others that paid TOP SHIT for their retail copy, i mean factory pressed disk, unofficial. (if i buy into ANY of that, it comes on a fuckin GDI disk no less) and that aint the worst, some well respected members/devs in the DC scene toasted their gdi assemblies on that game, something about the 'file sorting' i believe? (my interpretation: the files organised on disk was slap-dash/not optimised. a known DC cracker did a sorted build and shared it at...)
the dream died on my end, the only thing i care about for the DC is a hdd spoof, it's not fun using disks (retail or otherwise) on a part that's susceptible to wear and tear/difficult to maintain/replace.
    ...
yeah, gunloard is a quality game, the ONLY 'backup' disk game i have left, binned my RDC collection, just no need for em anymore! (oddly, i tried to give em to a friend, he sold his DC, shame.) no disrespect, got back to my retail roots, you do a great job guys! :smile-new:

^^ SWEET! (don't worry, agreements with sharer meant it stopped at me, NOBODY has that torrent from me)
does the disk come as a GDI? (gdrom)
i mean a proper SEGA proprietary disk format?
if so, i could be looking at a new game?! :smile-new:
and how much is this game and where can i get a reliable link for retail distro? thanks!

Seems Play asia and Video games New york are the only places you can get legit Copies of Hu Cast and NG Dev games (NG Dev are the two brothers, Hu Cast is just Rene, who is a friend of mine)

^^ that would be pretty cool, on psn, at least for those who have accounts. :smile-new:
i'll have to stick with a verbatim media/PHYSICAL retail copy, no intention of signing up $ony...(and my hardware is NEVER registered/CFW'd anyway, always off the grid) :witless:

4 years from now it will be 20 YEARS since the Dreamcast launched

Try to wrap your head around that fact, then do some basic market research.

Besides the Intellivision and 2600 I can't think of anything that has this kind of staying power. New NES games and repro carts seem to be a more recent phenomonon.
