So I took apart a dreamcast for cleaning, and when trying to put it back together couldn't figure out how to reassemble the lid. The part I can't figure out is the black hinge on the back that has the cog and the spring. I can't figure out how the spring is supposed to set. I have seen this same question online asked by others, but the pictures uploaded are all old and no longer available for viewing. If you can offer me some assistance it would be greatly appreciated!

The short end of the spring goes into that black plastic hook on the mounting bracket, and the long end goes into a hole in the top lid.

This should make it pretty clear:

No matter how many times I disassemble a console, I always have difficulty reassembling the lid mechanism. Made worse when you get the lid and open button springs mixed up.

Best thing to do is either take photos of every step you think might be confusing in reverse, or record yourself taking it apart.

That's what I do for consoles I've never disassembled before. But I've disassembled like, four GameCubes and I still need to stop and think when it comes to re-assembling the lid.
