    Hi everyone!

Just looking for some ideas on the best way to interface my Dreamcast(s) with the XRGB-mini I recently picked up from Yakumo.
I'm trying to work out if there is any point going through the XRGB-mini or whether to just use VGA with a (Beharius-made) scanliner.
I honestly cannot believe my eyes when looking at Mega Drive games running on RGB at 720p! :love-struck:
It's not going to be possible for me to ever go back to composite now...
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas that would be ace! :smile-new:

    Hello,

Dreamcast games look good with the VGA cable, why you want to use the XRGB ?
If you need scanline you can use a scanliner.

It's usefull if you use RGB output.

Firstly, no system benefits from the move from composite to RGB like the MegaDrive/Genesis. It's composite output is horrible. Secondly, I am not a scanline person, so personally I wouldn't bother. I would just use VGA if you can. Now if you couldn't use VGA, then you would probably have to get a Dreamcast RGB SCART cable and use that. Which may not be quite as good a video as VGA 480P source.

Because the DC looks great in 720p I only play with my xrgb and scanliner as VGA doesnt cut the mustard alone.

Guess I'll just have to try RGB SCART and VGA to determine which is best! :encouragement:
Thanks for the help everyone, I'll report back with my findings too! :loyal:

    VGA.

    VGA -> max 480p
    SCART-> max 480i

So VGA has the resolution advantage, yet lacks a kick ass upscaler like the XRGB-mini? :wink-new:
Given how well 240p scaled up... I have no doubts the XRGB-mini should make it look pretty damn nice.
I'll have to leave it up to my eyes to work out if there is much of a difference.
I've always felt the VGA mode on Dreamcast to have a very high sharpness to it.

    The Dreamcast lacks nothing.
    It's perfect.

    Hmm...

...except maybe a gigabit ethernet adapter.
    And maybe a Harddisk.
    And more RAM.
And a more powerful 3D chip & CPU.
    And everything else :)

Never know, XRGB might upscale 480p better than his TV.

No way, XRGB-3 owner use this upscaler as a passthrough, so the picture is not converted but the upscaler add scanline.

You wont have a better picture with scart output.

Is the DC SCART cable considered NSTC or PAL?

SCART is either 50hz or 60hz.

VGA must be 60hz under normal conditions. The VGA format did not officially support 50hz.

I just re-read that, not a scanline person? :dejection: I can't get enough of them! :wink-new:

Sounds like VGA might be the way to go after all. Maybe the Dreamcast is a bit too modern for me anyway... Hahaha! :biggrin-new:

A few games don't work under RGB but they do on VGA.

    I would go via VGA.

I thought it was the other way around! Some don't work on VGA but do work on RGB... fun either way really! :biggrin-new:

Well, I don't have VGA here, only RGB scart.

I know that Geist Force and Skies of Arcadia don't work here.

Damn, that's harsh! Maybe the two will have to co-exist? :smile-new:

Skies of Arcadia actually goes both directions.

    NTSC lacks RGB.
    PAL lacks VGA.

    * Connects in RGB SCART to the Dreamcast *
:grief: * uncontrollable shuddering * * rocking back and forth * :grief:

It's got nothing on VGA. Nothing!
Well at least I'll get to use one of those VGA adapters I picked up from Beharius!
Really impressed with how clear the Saturn looks though! :congratulatory:

Edit: Wow DC really looks good with VGA + HANZO. Added some hex screws onto the VGA bit from an old sound card. It's as solid as can be now!

I decided the best way to hookup a DC was to get this cable and then use this to transcode to hdmi and upscan to whatever resolution the framemeister looks best in. Now all I have to do is wait for everything to get here to test it out. If any games don't want to boot in 480p I guess I'll do the swap trick or whatever.
