Hi guys. I am looking a reason to figure why these dreamcast codes are not working for me. (In a real dreamcast) I know they are proved., but still all I obtained is a black screen after the SEGA logo. I own 2 dreamcast consoles, I even lend one more from a friend. I tried with Gameshark Lite (whitout dongle Echelon version) With an original Gameshark , and whit Code breaker. I used Video. S-Video and VGA box. I used original GD-ROMs and CDI copies but still it doesnt work. I used the original Gameshark dongle, the original VMU and a generic VMU. AT the beggining my consoles didnt haved the Clock batteries working, but I already fixed that with LIR2032 rechaergable batteries. I tried all these whit games like SHENMUE, MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2, etc . I mean games with 6:9 codes already proved; and they are not working . SO please guys, anyone have any ideas wich factors I could need to try or test? please guys help. I am looking a solution by quite long time by now. Maybe The dreamcast model could be a factor? I still tried with 3 different. Pleas eto the ones to created these codes, any idea what iIt could be happening?

Thanks for answering. yeah , as I explaned I already tried with codebreaker and different VMU's . DId you used the codes only or maybe an enable code for each game?

I guess I'm a little confused. Just to clarify, are able to boot up codebreaker and enter a code for a new game, but then it won't load the widescreen code or it won't load the game? Also keep in mind that certain games won't work with VGA. I recommend getting the Behar bros Akura hdmi box. It converts VGA to hdmi and it allows you to use a switcher to trick the game to run at 480p through VGA if its not compatible.

On the other hand, if you are trying to run a burned cdi game with codebreaker, then read the explanation given in the link I shared for codebreaker. My dreamcast is model 1, you can see the number with a circle at the bottom of the console. Hopefully this helps.

I think I found the problem. It seems it was a bad image disc in the codebreaker. In the Gameshark I cant found the problem. Probably these codes just doesnt work properly with it. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the code, please let me know. Which code I should add to a codebreaker in order to use it on a real dreamcast with the original game? The Find one? The Replace one? Both? I just want that explanation in order to undestand better how to use these codes. I noticed, some of you guys just posted the codes, and others use the FIND and REPLACE words.

The find and replace method is for modifying a CDI or GDI of the entire game. It is not a cheat code and is not relevant for retail copies of the game, unless you dump your disc, modify the dump, then play the dump in an emulator or on a real Dreamcast with something like GDEMU.

To the best of my knowledge only V2 model Dreamcasts can't read burned CDs (this model had the bios modified to prevent the system from reading CD's, these systems were made from mid-October 2000 till late February or early March 2001 and as far as I know this model was only released in the U.S. although I have heard that most Japanese systems don't generally tend to play very nice with Audio/Data format CDI images while Data/Data format CDI images seem to work just fine for some strange reason which could also be a factor if using a Japanese system).

Oh, thanks. That means I should better cross fingers for some luck with the Sonic Adventure INTERNATIONAL codebreaker code. I am really interesed on playing with my originial games. I also hope someone could found one codebreaker code for Sonic Adventure 2 10th edition. I already tried a JP code around there in the previous posts, and it doenst worked with it. Even if both are JP region.

Does anyone know the procedure to convert a simple hex widescreen code to an iso patch works ? There are so many games where I just found AR-Codes but no hex patch. And on real hardware it is just much more convenient to have a prepatched iso instead of using a codebreaker disk.
Any pointer in the right direction would be appreciated.
    Thank you :)

    edit:
    Just found something:
I just tried with zero gunner 2 by using this tutorial
    https://assemblergames.com/threads/dreamcast-widescreen-hacks.58620/page-35#post-924548

I mounted the cdi in daemon tools extracted the 1st_read.bin...but the offset I calculated from this code https://assemblergames.com/threads/dreamcast-widescreen-hacks.58620/page-11#post-844877 is outside of the range of data in the 1st_read.bin

    Code:
    02323CB0 43700000

    (8C)323CB0
    43700000

     0x323CB0
    -0x010000

    0x313CB0

    00000734
My plan would have been after extracting the 1st_read.bin and applying the patch there, to look for the line to edit, now that I know which one it should be, in the cdi file itselft to apply the hex code.
    Hmm...what did I miss...

edit: Ok after reading a bit further it seems that the offset doesn't have to be in the 1st_read.bin itself but could be located in another binary that gets called by the 1st_read bin. Looking at canon spike...this one has also a too short 1st_read.bin for my offset, but I don't find anything other at its disk that looks like an executable to me after looking at the filename ov every .bin file.

Sometimes you'll be lucky and the code will correspond to the 1st_read.bin. Some other times, the binary will get modified in memory or other stuff will be loaded before the code is applied, which is much more complicated to convert into a disc-level patch.

Sorry for my lack of contribution lately.

During the period while Assemblers was down, I was actually still working on Widescreen hacks for the Dreamcast, but I am just retarded and I deleted ALL my data regarding Dreamcast widescreen hacks from my hard drive..... hopefully I burned every single game I hacked So It is just a matter of comparing the untouched IP.Bin with the with the modified one....

Right now I am super busy at work and other duties so I don't know how much time I will spend on this.

The list of games with Widescreen Hex patches includes the following ( some may be allready posted or missing from this list..)

    18 Wheller
    Condidential Mission
    Cool Boarders
    Cool Cool Toon
    Evil Twin
    Fighting Vipers 2
    Grandia 2
    GODZILLA GENERATIONS
    Head Hunter
    Jet Set Radio
    Maken X
    Marvel VS Capcom 2
    Metropolis Street Racer
    Nighmare Creatures 2
    NBA2k2
    NHL
    Outtriger
    PLASMA SWORD
    Proppeller Arena
    Ready 2 Rumble 2
    Rival Schools 2 (project Justice)
    Samba de Amigo
    Soldier of fortune
    Sonic Adventure 2
    Soul Reaver
Soul Calibur ( ONLY FOR NON VGA MODE)
    Sports Jam
    Super Magnetic Neo
    Super Runabout
The House of the Death 2
    Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2
    Tokyo Higway challenge 2
    Tomb Raider
    Vanishing Point
    Virtua Fighter 3
    Virtua Tennis 2

So I'll try to start posting those codes as fast as possible, Before starting to look to hack other games, I would like to hear requests though.
