If its as useless as the Saturn FDD then count me out. *As if you could count me in to begin with. :110: *
Is the person behind this sale being serious? Could this be the only working prototype in existence? If this really is the case, why haven't Sega got a spare locked away or terminated the auction yet so they can reclaim what I presume would be an important part of the company's history as a hardware manufacturer?
I doubt it is the only one, its too well made, looks more like a mass-produced unit vs prototype, even if "mass produced" in small quantities (under 100)
Far more useless. At least you could use the FDD with the likes of Dezaemon 2, PD Azel and Culdcept. (and a couple of others)
This could appear as a very large VMU to the system. I wonder if any of the Katana dev kits make reference to the hardware? And, it almost looks like a USB port on the left of the drive. Or maybe it's a large power light?
I hope somebody buys it, and then finds out what is what in it. And figure out a way of making a home made zip drive to the DC. Since then it would be very cool all the way.
If it was possible to make something like this work; and possible to make yourself. Then I doubt the potential buyer would let that information, in to the wild since he/she would have paid $10.000!
I'm sure they have more prototype hardware than they have space for. This is not exactly the holy grail, it's just an interesting "what if" type gadget. I bet it doesn't even do anything.
he does mention it doesnt do much except for unloading/loading the disk etc. it needs drivers written and compatible software he also adds.
