I've mentioned this in other posts but I thought I'd start its own thread. I've been working on software to automate answering the Dreamcast and handing over to PPP.

Here's a preview video of it in action:

I've still got a couple of things to finish up before I upload an SDcard image, then I'm going to work on producing a dial tone for games that require it. I'll keep this thread updated.

Nice! Going to keep track of your progress, once it's fully automatic then I'm definitely going to treat myself to a nice Pi-solution for Dreamcast.

Yes, yes, yes! If I can use my Pi for more than running a 4x4Evo chat server that'll be amazing.

What model Pi are you running this on out of curiosity?

I'm still working on this! The software now reliably detects disconnection and then goes back to listening. Going to try to upload an SD card image this week.

Could you give the Windows 10 core for pi a go??? Maybe it would work with cheaper software modems???

Due to the fact a hardware modem is $40+ vs a software modem can go as low as $8. Plus it's a kernal for iot and let's put the fanboy feelings to the side for a sec and accept that both Linux and Windows has their uses .

But his project is working and using Linux, why would he switch to Windows? If there infos I'm missing there?

Afaiu, you plug the Ethernet and the DC modem on the pi and it handles the transactions between the DC and the network just like I understand a software modern to do.

Edit: BTW just looked at the code kazade, god do I love python!

No version of windows supports the dial in networking without some kind of vm besides 98. Then the whole thing would need to be rewritten

So stuck paying for a $40+ hardware modem.

What 56k modem are you currently using in your build.

The modem I'm using cost <$10 IIRC. It's the cheapest one I could find!
