How many were made? I have a PAL one and it's very similar, 30x.xxx to many others.. what is the highest serial number on a debugger you've seen and have there been any very low serials?
Which PlayStation series are you referring to? The PlayStation or PlayStation 2? I don't own any debugstation consoles, but I have a TOOL and several retails. As for low serial numbers: 1. My SONY KISARAZU SCPH-10000 has "J 0500044". I always thought that the higher digits are related to the batch, since it seems to rarely change (usually jumps between major revisions at around that time). If that's right, then this console's serial number is very low indeed. 2. I think that one of krHACKen's debugstation consoles had 0000123 as its serial number. As for the production quantity, I don't know. If nobody here knows that, then I suppose that only Sony knows the actual number. Not to mention that they made several releases of different console models, some of which were for different purposes (Those with a "S" in their model numbers, those with MagicGate support etc).
Was mainly thinking the original one, but thank you so much, Yeah I'll have to ask sony, how is that possible? Shame tho that Twilight, NeC5552 and TriMesh are ignoring this. They read it but hmm :/ They could know the answer but IDK.
I don't have enough data to really be sure. The highest number I've seen was on a DTL-H1202, and that was 301947 - which was one of the ones with the black controller ports that appeared to have been remanufactured using parts from a Yaroze. The lowest number was 300103 - on a DTL-H1000 that had apparently used to belong to Konami (KCET). My guess is that there are probably a few thousand of each model, but that really is just a guess.
I don't think that anyone here actually knows the exact number of consoles, since only licensed developers were supposed to have access to these development consoles. Just to add on, some of them might even have been sent back to Sony, to be remodeled/retrofitted. For example, the DTL-T10000 units were returned to Sony... and replaced with a DTL-T10000H. Nobody actually knows whether Sony destroyed the old units or simply replaced the SSBUSC/MIF board before reusing them. The DTL-H10000 and DTL-H30000 also had newer revisions, namely the DTL-H10100 and DTL-H30100. At least the DTL-H30100 has a mismatched boot ROM: its OSD (within ROM v1.50) performs a boot certification with a hardcoded version number of v1.10 (which is the ROM version that the DTL-H30000 had). Nobody knows whether they upgraded the original DTL-H10000 and DTL-H30000 models, or whether they were new sets that came out of the assembly lines with a new boot ROM and MECHACON. I don't know about PlayStation consoles, but I don't see why they couldn't have done the same thing.
Yes, my DTL-H50002 has C0000123. Looks like all the DTL-H50k have a low SN, according to the eBay pics I could find... DTL-H50001, U0000234 DTL-H50001, 0000192 DTL-H50001, U0000214 DTL-H50001, 0000365 DTL-H50008 U, U0000015
Just to let you know,I don't have any dev consoles and can't get any. I'm limited to doing development/test stuff using retail consoles, and my 5552 seems to do the job without a single hitch. Second hand though, and obiviously chipped.
DTL-H3001, 300101 - this is the first unit made for the USA, region free and plays CD-R. DTL-H1001H, 300036 I remember I have seen a DTL-H1002 with the serial number 300001 but I'm not sure if it wasn't a joke. I tried to contact the owner but he didn't reply.
