I just got this machine, and it's been pretty badly treated - in particular, it looks like one corner of the case was smashed and then rather haphazardly glued together.

On top of this, it has a crack in the lower housing, the wrong (110V) PSU, a bad laser and the parallel port cover is missing. The main board is OK, though - I stuck a good AEM laser out of one of my other machines in there and it boots OK.

So, do you think this is worth repairing, or too poor condition and damaged to be worth bothering with?

You should repair it. After it's cleaned up and running good you'll really appreciate it. :) I've never thrown away something I could fix, it would be a shame and a waste.

I just curious to know: How did you get your hands on so many mistreated TEST (debugstation) units? D:

If it's definitely a TEST, I would try to restore it as much as possible as these units are really limited in quantity (In comparison to the retail consoles).

Yeah, this one is really a debug console - I've taken it apart and there is no modchip in it, but it will boot CD-Rs without problems as long as it has a good laser.

They were in a big box of various consoles - there was the "not really test" PS2 and a pair of DTL-H1202s. The other one works perfectly and is in much nicer condition, although annoyingly it's one of the late production units with the wrong controller ports (they are black) - but it does have the right PSU, a working drive and the parallel port cover :)
