Hello everyone, I received 1 week ago my DTL-H30102 Unit and I'm curious if you can use an internal HDD with this model. I already purchased the Network Adapter (SCPH-10350) and also this IDE to SATA converter. Well it didn't work.. I used my 128GB SSD and the newest version of OPL and WinHIIP but the OPL didn't recognize the HDD. Tomorrow I'll try the adapter with a random IDE HDD that I found to make sure if the adapter works. Does someone have an idea which way would be the best to play games from the internal HDD? I really wanna use a SATA HDD instead of a IDE HDD. Greetings.
All known DEX consoles should be compatible with the network adaptor. The difference is only whether they will ever support booting from one. For reasons, compatibility with IDE devices (SATA adaptors included) was never perfect in the homebrew world. So it may be a compatibility problem.
There is some modded network adapter already replace the IDE interface to SATA interface like the picture below: But this solution ONLY works with 2.5 inches HDD or SSD. With the 3.5 inches HDD would cause the PS2 shutdown. Another solution (in case you want to using a 3.5 inches HDD) is using a adapter USING JM20330 controller chip (see below image) And the connection like this: You'll need to modify you PS2 HDD bay to fit those thing in. If using a 7200 RPM 3.5 inches HDD better hook the power cable to external power supply because network adapter cannot provide enough power for it.
That looks like a compatible adaptor. I have not heard of a good compatible to date, so it is a hit or miss. The PlayStation 2 was made to use a 3.5" disk. Perhaps it won't ever supply the same amount of current as in a desktop PC, but this is the first time I've heard of such an advice....
You mean the SCPH-20401(Seagate ST340823A) Right? This HDD only need 1.4 amps current when it startup. But if you using a 7200 RPM 3.5 inches HDD (like me using ST3100524AS) it would require up to 2.0 amps current to startup. That may trigger the PlayStation 2 overload protection and shutdown the console, so I had to power the HDD with a external power supply and problem solved.
Any suggestion as solution? yeah, I also saw them. I could get them for ~15€ but I heard people and some homebrews have problems with these chinese adapters... :-/
The 12V and 5V supply have IC Links. Since those did not fuse, it sounds like your SYSCON is shutting down the console (if it even has this function), or the PSU is losing power. I haven't personally saw this happen, which is why it's news to me. Thanks for sharing. No, I have never used the ST340823A before. The PS2 HDD wasn't released in Asia, so I used my PC's HDD from 2006. The HDD is a ST380211A, which is a 7200RPM, 80GB disk. Why not try using the IDE disk first? I think the first step is to ensure that the PS2 and the network adaptor are both good. BTW, why do you mean by "OPL did not recognize the HDD"? OPL v0.9.3 will report if no disk was detected or if it is not formatted.
Well... the only HDD that I have is a WD that doesn't fit. I guess I'll try to find another one. It gave me a error, that there is no HDD inside the PS2. HD Loader also says that.
I used to get this problem too, do you double check you adapter is installed correctly? Like socket connection between the PS2 and adapter or between the adapter and HDD , and tighten the adapter screw.
Have you checked that the power and ZIF cable (between the SPEED board and the SATA to IDE board) are secured properly? Does the disk power up when the HDD is accessed? If you cannot tell, does the fan spin faster? If not, then the network adaptor probably isn't being detected by the console.
Are you sure you don't have a bad PSU? I've used multiple 3.5" drives (both IDE and SATA) in multiple PS2s without problems.
Not sure, I try at my 39001 that has been mod the PSU to 220V have this problem, but at my another SCPH5K model (with original PSU and stock network adapter)also have this problem too.
