There's a forum member here who needs to know how to dump the contents of an Xbox Hard Drive (debug/Dev unit). Or at the very least clone the drive as a back up. It's absolutely vital the drive does not run the risk of getting wiped. Any tips?
Install the XDK software on the PC, FTP in, and grab the files off, it wont wipe anything. May require XP, though I think people have gotten it to work on 7. PM me if you need more help
couldn't he feasibly also run any of the alternative dash' that have built in ftp without having to setup xdk?
He could, yep. But unless he has a retail game loader, a way to get the one file onto the box that allows you to run retail, or a debug patched dash (which is harder to find now then it was), its not a great option anymore.
Is it possible to use something like Konppix Live CD, attach the drive to a PC, mount it in Knoppix and image it?
Unless the Knoppix distro you're using has a FATX driver built in, no not likely. There are FATX reading applications for Windows but the last time I checked most of them demanded they use an image of the drive rather than the drive itself. Care must be taken when attempting to use Windows with a FATX formatted drive hooked up to it.
If I remember correctly, most Linux distros created their own file that acted as the file system and install location. I dont know if that changed as time went on though.
hi mate, i dumped by Debug kits by altering one of the old dashboards to run from debug (there was a pc utility i used but i forget the name but have it on my home PC) and then i just FTP'd the information to my PC, i have an ISO of the disc i used on my NAS drive so i can always send it you via FTP etc. or if your in the UK im happy for you to bring the box and your welcome to go through it with me Steps: 1 - edit dashboard.xbe to alter flags to run from Debug kit and not retail 2 - burn ISO with this new dashboard and files 3 - load up in Debug xbox 4 - get IP settings and FTP from PC into debug xbox 5 - transfer files to PC any questions please ask
