Does anyone have a guide on what software to use to dump via a pc (as i dont have an actual PS3 to use) thanks
The problem at hand is that when dumping via PC the data on the disc encrypts itself, making it unusable. The solution to this is use a real PS3 with cfw (CEX or DEX though DEX is better if you ask me) along with a manager like Multiman or Irisman to copy it to the internal HDD or a FAT32 device. Once done you can move over to your PC and rebuild the copied data using PS3ISOTOOLS (v2.1 is probably best) and build the data to an ISO. If you don't have a PS3 to use you may be out of luck, though I can be potentially wrong here. I don't recall any successes with ripping on a PC for a fully workable disc, but if there are I'd love to know. Best option you have is use a CFW PS3 to rip them or find someone who can. May I ask what the titles are in particular?
i have the following id like to rip WWE '13 Test Build (24-09-12) Timeshift (28-11-07) Mercenaries 2 (24-07-08) Motorstorm Pacific Rift E3 Demo (July 2008)
If you want to release the builds you can release every one of those here EXCEPT the WWE'13 one (at least now I know who had the Test build. I got the review build and one other member is willing to part with the Debug build). You do have some neat builds though so that's a fun thing to see. Gonna send you a PM about it.
Does this also count for back-up media? I know with pressed discs they can do trickery, but with a burned BD-R it should all be in the reading spectrum of a regular BD computer drive right?
I tried using Borman's favorite tool Dvdisaster but the resulting ISO is encrypted and unusable. I tried an obscure tool and same results. I haven't tried imgburn but I'm likely going to have the same unusable results. A PC drive just can't rip things correctly until we can undo the encryption. From what I've seen this can go 2 ways. Get a retail cfw ps3 and rip using a manager and the data is read correctly or it gets ripped but isn't read correctly and the ripped data becomes useless. I mention this as previously the PS3 debug build of wwe13 was not ripped into a usable state even when done by a PS3. This can easily be due to it being a CEX->DEX modded PS3, but it was still strange. Normal PS3s see the discs as data discs not games (my brother has a 3-4k series so I did find out it can only be read in the XMB properly by DEX consoles). If you do get a retail PS3 just be prepared if ripping causes unusable data as reliability without a 3k3y is low.
Yea the PS3 decrypts the eboot.bin and potential self files. They would then need to decrypted using the public key then signed using the 3.55 keys in order to be playable at all. Even BD-R will need to be done this way as the files have been signed with SCETool before mastering.
Posted this on here before. This worked for me with a PC BR drive, would also work under linux on ps3 too using dd if no BR drive on PC. Dump iso on pc using imgburn. Use the ps3 generator tools (google them) - to decrypt the dumped .iso. (its an option in the dropdown menu) unfself the eboot.bin re-enc the eboot.elf with retail keys. Should work on CFW no problem. I know 100% for a fact this works, so give it a go!
I have serious doubts about this unless your drive was one of the ones reported to be able to read the PS3 discs. I made multiple attempts just now, and nothing came out the way it should (encrypted as one should expect). If you actually had success with a rip can you share the exact model of BD drive you have? Furthermore, is there a plugin you're using for imgburn that we're just not aware of? Again, I've tried extensively, looked everywhere, but there's no feasible way to rip via PC drives.
Heres my theory though, the disks are always encrypted. Its not the PC drive doing it, that would be silly. The PS3 knows how to read it though. And what he is saying that the PS3 generator tool knows how to decrypt it too.
Just a random LG BR drive, as I also said, I used the PS3 on CFW running linux to dump it via dd also. Just open Imgburn, dump the .iso (encrypted of course) then use the ps3 generator tools to decrypt the dumped .iso. (in one of the dropdown menus in the menu bar) Since I assume its burned to BD-R any BR drive should have no qualms dumping an encrypted image. I've done this multiple times on multiple different discs I own. The only important step is to ensure that you use the SDK generator tools to decrypt it. Then proceed to un-fake self the EBOOT.BIN using unfself in the PS3 SDK, which should leave you with an EBOOT.ELF, re-encrypt it using any one of the number of the resigning tools on the internet, and you should have a working copy of your game playable on a CEX CFW console. If you manage to achieve the above steps, by all means PM me the EBOOT.BIN/any sprx that also need converting to a retail CFW format, and i'll be happy to do that for you! The disc should show up in explorer as PS3VOLUME or something similar, is that correct? If it does, it'll dump correctly, albeit encrypted in its encrypted form. If you can't even access the disc, it strikes me as there is something physically wrong with it. Hope this helps.
The way you originally wrote your post made it seem you were using a PC exclusively to dump the contents. Yes the DD command would allow it to be ripped but the part I'm not understanding is why even use the DD command in a Linux installation when you can rip that contents to the internal HDD and copy the now decrypted ISO rip? If you do that then you can just reassemble the contents of the ISO using ps3gen or makeps3iso methods to have a nice disc duplicate. It jur seems like you're using an overly complicated method especially of you're on cfw which should make things even easier.
I did use a PC exclusively to dump the contents, I just suggested Linux on PS3 as an alternative if you didn't have a BR drive in your PC. That's all. I don't care how you get the encrypted .iso, it really doesn't matter. I just know that using the PS3 generator tools is a way to decrypt the .iso image after its been dumped. Try my method, or continue your way, I was merely offering another suggestion. If you want a "true" rip, this is a pretty good method for a clean and untouched dump. Not that it works with retail discs of course, but for previews and other pre-release media on BD-R, this works pretty damn good, as it retains the encryption used when the disc was generated. One more step using the generator tools to decrypt it afterwards isn't too hard for anyone, and surely for preservation purposes, keeping data intact is paramount? I agree, stick a retail PS3 game in a PC, and chances are it will cack out and probably won't show up. But pre-release stuff burned to BD-R will almost certainly have been mastered using the tools in the SDK and can be dumped via PC. Dump the complete image using whatever tool you'd like, and decrypt it using the generator tools, and all works fine. Dump the .iso using imgburn, use the SDK generator tools, and decrypt the .iso you made with it. Then unfself the EBOOT.BIN and re-encrypt it with retail keys. Just try it. Anyone with a CFW PS3 will be able to use it then. Overly complicated maybe, but it worked for me. (and doesn't require a PS3 to dump, unless you are lacking a BR drive in your PC, and have to use Linux on the PS3!)
Glad to have some confirmation of how I thought it would work @bdawg . I think @PixelButts confusion was if he had simply extracted the iso as was, the game still had all the encryption, which obviously wouldnt work as is on a retail modded PS3.
So I'm ripping a disc I have via imgburn as I type this. My question is in the SDK what exact tool are you using for this decrypting @bdawg . Filename is what I'm looking for here. Nevermind. I found what I was looking for. I'll share results soon. Edit - Well it worked. I'm impressed. I do want to apologize about the posts prior to this. This makes things a lot easier on me with only one build I have, but it's the only build I've ever had issues with.
