What is the best method for dumping non retail prerelease discs for the Xbox 360 via PC? Mostly dual layer, not sure what tools are best and what methods to for a 1:1 rip, or best rip possible.
To be honest the best method is to pop the disc into the dvd drive of an XDK then use neighborhood to rip
That is the worst way. Non-retail disks should be dumped to an ISO using a PC. You can follow redump's guides if you want to get fancy, but with DVD it's less touchy than a CD-r.
Thanks. Do you have a link to the guide? Normally with DVDs I'd just use DVD decryptor but with these discs being dual layer I wasn't sure how a dual layer DVD would be read and dumped into an ISO, I'd presume with more specific utilities. Any info is appreciated.
Dual layer discs just have more room for data so the ISO created will just be bigger. It's not really anything too technical afaik so you should be okay. The only real issue is if your drive supports it, and unless it's a rather old machine i dont see this being a problem. The wiki page Borman linked should suffice
That guide is outdated, try this one: http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Disc_Dumping_Guide_(DICUI)
I've tried using another disc with the method above. It's only a single layer, DVD decrypter managed to grab an image but DICUI couldn't. The disc works, but looking at it with ISO Buster reveals it has a corrupt sector on the disc, no idea why as the game partition seems fine and the files are visible, however I don't have the full version of ISO Buster yet to extract the content that way. Is this a common occurrence to stumble across, some form of copy protection perhaps?
