so far all in a debugging stage
it is necessary to implant the new driver into KOS, most likely Blue Crab will do not miss such changes in an official repository and to us will have to create own branch of KOS
at the moment the driver was tested in a linking of GDROM+HDD, DVDROM+HDD, HDD+HDD
the game Milenium Soldier with a disk DVD is successfully tested

You can't try to run a game from a dvd ide with dreamshell 4 rc4 ?
If the dvd have a ide like you shown in your picture for me it's a same thing than an hdd.
You can't run video directly but you should be run a game.

    Hmm this is very interesting

Hopefully a way to run any/all disc backups from a dvd drive rather than a GDROM will come out of this even if it's a new bios or whatever. It would be nice to be able to not have to mess with disc image sizes with down sampling and things like that to get nice 1:1 backups even tho CDDA is apparently posing an issue with this thought/method currently.

3D printing a bay\storage area for a harddrive and DVD drive would be a pretty cool project for someone here. similar to karaoke add-on

I suppose LinuxDC or NetBSD would be able to use a DVD drive for MPEG2 playback if you know what you're doing. Unless the OS eats up the necessary RAM\CPU-load

now i'm just throwing this out there hypothetically, not for video playback of course, but what about IDE Blu-Ray drives? 25GB is quite substantial for storing multiple GDIs. And i'm not sure if they're burnable\commercially pressed only, but it can go up-to 128GB for a four-layer Blu-Ray

edit: you could probably fit the whole damn dreamcast library on two four-layer blu-ray discs

Not sure I've ever seen an IDE Blu-Ray drive. They all seem to be USB or SATA now. It might have to go on a SATA to IDE Adapter which might slow things down.
Regarding the Dreamshell IDE presets i mentioned on page 1, Its working now for me. I installed a newer 160Gb Hitachi HDD. Games are working with DMA mode (when compatable) too.
Still looking forward to any news and updates from SWAT and Megavolt85 on Dreamshell.

oh, and while we're at it, those slimline drives might look better under a DC than a 5.25'' one, no?

Blu-Ray disc don't supported by driver
    supported only
    CD, GD - for GD-ROM
    CD, CD-RW - for CD-ROM
    CD, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RW - for DVD-ROM
    i'm don't have BD-ROM, in theory BD-ROM can work as DVD-ROM
