Today I used dvdisaster with varying degrees of effects on some of my damaged betas. One disc it wouldn't read all at in dvdisaster - all sectors red - but worked fine in ISO Buster. Other discs dvdisaster skipped directories, that would copy over completely or partially via file browser. I felt a need to make this post because dvdisaster is heavily promoted here. It seems just copying the files over via file browser and "Skip"ing any damaged files had a better result.
It's one tool of many, and not a bad starting point for many media formats. But it's always worth trying other programs, other drives, etc to get as much data as possible.
I've used it a few more times after my post and I have found it to be significantly worse than simply copying the files (and "skip"ping any with read errors). I wouldn't recommend this software to anyone based on my experience.
Not sure if it's "issues" or if the app is just poorly made. Iso buster is giving me a fuller dump as well as file copying.
Unlike DVDisaster, ISObuster offers a ton of recovery tools and is as a result not free. DVDisaster in my usage is explicitly to read a medium for any bad sectors. Any ripping of the contents are done with other software. As a reminder DVDisaster is also not supported anymore on windows binaries so it would be better to use the linux variant instead (though thats a lot of work for this program in general). I suggest you use what works best. I keep a copy of PowerISO and ISOBuster ready with a plethora of other stuff like Virtual Clone Drive and Daemon Tools Lite in addition to it. If one fails, try another.
What exactly are you trying to dump? I limit it to dvdr mostly, ps1 games don't work great in it for instance.
> ISObuster offers a ton of recovery tools and is as a result not free I use the free version, works great! The Redump.org app DiscImageCreator / DIC / DICUI is the most accurate and does write offset correction for audio tracks / leaves logs / reports c2 errors. If the disc is scratched then ISO Buster or copying via file browser seems to be the best solution.
